Chapter 10 - A NEW BEGINNING

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the Moretti estate was filled with light, music, and laughter.

It was the first anniversary of Adrian and Elena's wedding.

Children ran across the polished oak floor, playing near the grand marble staircase, while dozens of guests—business associates, union leaders, local politicians, and friends—chattered merrily over glasses of vintage Italian wine.

The Moretti organization was no longer an underground criminal syndicate whispered about in dark alleyways. Under Adrian's leadership, it had evolved into one of the largest maritime logistics and real estate conglomerates on the East Coast.

Adrian stood near the French doors leading to the balcony, holding a glass of sparkling water, chatting with his new head of security—a loyal, sharp-eyed man named Leo.

"Perimeter is clear, boss," Leo reported with a respectful nod. "No issues."

"Good work, Leo," Adrian smiled, patting the man's shoulder. "Go enjoy the food."

As Leo walked away, Elena approached from the ballroom floor. She wore a stunning emerald-green evening gown that hugged her curves perfectly.

Adrian watched her approach, his dark eyes filled with the same awe he had felt the first time he saw her.

"You're ignoring the guests, Mr. Moretti," Elena teased gently, sliding her arm through his.

"I'm only interested in one guest, Mrs. Moretti," Adrian smiled, pulling her close to his side.

They stepped out onto the marble balcony, looking at the quiet waters of the bay glittering under a full moon.

Elena leaned her head against his shoulder, her hand resting over his heart.

"Do you ever think about that night?" Elena asked softly. "In the penthouse?"

Adrian touched his pinky finger—where his father's gold signet ring rested—and then placed his hand over hers.

"I think about how close I came to losing you before I even knew what you meant to me," Adrian said softly.

"You didn't lose me," Elena smiled, looking up at him. "You saved me."

"No, Elena," Adrian whispered, leaning down to kiss her forehead gently. "You saved me. You brought light into a house that had been dark for eleven years."

He reached behind her back, his fingers touching the delicate zipper of her emerald dress.

Elena laughed softly, her eyes sparkling under the moonlight.

"Not yet, Adrian," she whispered mischievously. "We have three hundred guests waiting inside."

Adrian laughed—a rich, happy sound that echoed out over the calm waters of Long Island Sound.

He took her hand, and together, they turned back toward the light, ready for whatever the future held.
