Chapter 9 - THE UNBROKEN PROMISE

Two weeks later.

The afternoon sun warm on the gardens behind the Moretti estate.

White rose bushes bloomed in full glory along the stone terraces overlooking the blue waters of Long Island Sound.

Elena stood near the fountain, wearing a simple white linen dress. Her dark hair was tied back, and for the first time in six months, the heavy shadow of fear had completely vanished from her eyes.

A pair of heavy, confident footsteps sounded on the gravel path behind her.

Adrian walked up, wearing a casual dark blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He looked younger, relaxed, his sharp jawline softened by a quiet peace.

He held a small wooden box in his hand.

"How are the legal teams handling the restructuring?" Elena asked, turning to face him with a smile.

"The shipping ports have been fully transitioned into legitimate commercial logistics," Adrian replied, stepping close to her. "The weapons trade is completely shut down. Don Carmine approved the final charter this morning. The Moretti name is clean, Elena."

Elena reached out, touching his chest softly. "My father would be so proud of you, Adrian."

"Your father was a wise man," Adrian murmured, looking down into her hazel eyes. "He knew that the only way to save me from becoming a monster was to make me protect you."

He opened the small wooden box in his hand.

Inside lay a magnificent diamond ring—a sparkling six-carat cushion-cut stone set in platinum, surrounded by small sapphires.

Elena gasped softly. "Adrian..."

"Three weeks ago, we had a wedding for three hundred strangers," Adrian said, taking her hand in his. "It was a contract. A promise to a dying man. But today... I don't want a contract."

He looked deep into her eyes, his voice filled with raw, unmistakable emotion.

"I married you to keep a promise to your father," Adrian whispered gently. "But I want to stay married to you because I love you, Elena. More than my life. More than this empire."

Tears of pure happiness welled in Elena's eyes. She smiled—a radiant, beautiful smile that lit up the entire garden.

"You don't need to ask, Adrian," Elena whispered, stepping into his arms. "I loved you long before you unzipped that dress."

He slipped the diamond ring onto her finger, pulling her close as his lips met hers in a passionate, deep kiss under the afternoon sun.
