Chapter 6 - THE BETRAYAL AT FIRST NATIONAL

Victor Hale smiled coldly, dusting a speck of lint from his lapel.
"Hello, Daniel," Victor said over the blaring siren. "I told you that waitress was trouble."
Daniel pushed Maya behind his back, his hand slipping inside his suit jacket onto the grip of his custom 9mm pistol. "You're working with Gregory Vance now, Victor?"
"Gregory offered me twenty percent of Vanguard Bio-Tech's international military contracts," Victor laughed dryly. "All I had to do was track where you took the girl after the alleyway incident. My men tapped your SUV's GPS three hours ago."
Maya glared at Victor from behind Daniel. "My father trusted you, Victor! You were a trustee on Vanguard's board!"
"Your father was a fool who thought ethics belonged in business," Victor spat. "Hand over the hard drive, Maya. Or Daniel dies right here on the marble floor."
Daniel looked around the corridor. The main exit was blocked by four gunmen. The emergency fire escape was thirty feet behind them.
"You really think you can execute me in the middle of First National Bank, Victor?" Daniel asked softly, his dark eyes entirely devoid of fear. "You think my syndicate won't burn your life to the ground before nightfall?"
"Your syndicate won't know who did it," Victor smirked, gesturing to his men. "To the police, this will look like an armed robbery gone wrong. Take the drive!"
Two gunmen stepped forward.
"Now, Marcus!" Daniel shouted!
From the top of the marble staircase above them, Marcus Reed leaned over the bronze railing, firing three rapid shots with a silenced carbine!
The two advancing gunmen dropped instantly!
Chaos erupted!
Daniel pulled his pistol, firing two precise rounds into the chest of a third mercenary before grabbing Maya's hand. "RUN!"
They sprinted toward the fire exit as automatic rifle fire tore into the marble walls around them, sending stone splinters and glass exploding through the corridor!

Daniel kicked open the heavy iron fire door, leading Maya up a narrow concrete staircase toward the street level.
Behind them, Victor yelled furiously, "DON'T LET THEM REACH THE STREET! KILL THEM BOTH!"
