Chapter 7 - The Downfall

“Adrian Vance, Celeste Vance, Marcus Cole,” the lead FBI agent announced, his voice echoing through the silent hall. “You are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, interstate kidnapping, and obstruction of justice.”
Agents rushed forward with handcuffs.
Adrian tried to run toward the kitchen service entrance, but two agents tackled him to the floor before he made it three steps. His face was slammed against the cold marble floor—the exact same spot where my necklace had fallen twelve hours earlier.
“Get off me! Do you know who I am?” Adrian shrieked as the steel cuffs clicked around his wrists. “I’m the Financial Director!”
“Not anymore,” Gabriel said coldly, standing over him. “You’re a inmate.”
Celeste was pulled to her feet by a female agent. As she was led away, her ruby ring caught the light of the chandeliers—the same red stone I had remembered from my darkest childhood memories. I watched her go, feeling a massive weight lifting off my chest.
Marcus Cole was escorted down from the balcony in handcuffs, his head bowed in complete humiliation as news cameras flashed in his face.
Within ten minutes, the room was cleared of suspects. The guests remained, standing in awe of what they had just witnessed.
Gabriel stepped up to the podium, taking my hand in his.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Gabriel said, his voice ringing with pride and emotion. “Tonight was supposed to be a charity gala. But instead, it has become the day my family was restored. I present to you my daughter, Aurelia Vale—the chief forensic accountant who saved Halcyon Global, and the rightful heir to this empire.”
The ballroom erupted into applause. Standing ovation echoed from every corner of the room. Executives who had watched Adrian slap me night before were now bowing their heads in respect.
I looked out at the sea of faces, but my eyes quickly drifted to Gabriel. For the first time in twenty years, I felt a warm sense of belonging. I was no longer Mara, the nameless orphan. I was Aurelia.
Later that night, after the police interviews and legal statements were completed, Gabriel and I returned to his estate.
We sat in the glass conservatory, drinking warm tea as the rain began to fall outside.
“Are you alright?” Gabriel asked gently.
“I’ve waited eighteen months for this night,” I said, looking down at my hands. “I thought revenge would feel explosive. But right now, it just feels... quiet.”
“Revenge clears the ground,” Gabriel said softly. “Justice builds the house. Tomorrow, we start building your future.”
He handed me a leather-bound folder. Inside were official documents transferring forty percent of Halcyon Global’s voting shares into my name, along with an appointment letter as Chief Restructuring Officer.
“You earned this,” Gabriel said. “Not because you are my daughter... but because you are the sharpest mind this company has ever seen.”
I smiled, holding the folder tightly against my chest.
However, as I looked at the legal documents, a strange discrepancy caught my eye in the attached historical audit reports from twenty years ago.
There was a second account linked to Celeste’s original shell company—an account that had remained active even during the years I was at the orphanage.

And the name on that account was not Adrian, Marcus, or Celeste.
It was a name I had never seen before: Julian Thorne.
