Chapter 6 - The Architect of Grace

"I'm not going to a gala, Dominic," Elena said firmly, setting her coffee cup down. "I am a nurse, not a socialite. I don't need apologies from people whose opinions I don't respect."
Dominic looked at her for a long moment, studying the stubborn set of her jaw, the bright intelligence in her hazel eyes, and the sheer strength that allowed her to stand her ground against a man who made billionaires tremble.
"You don't need their apologies," Dominic conceded quietly. "But I need them to know that touching you carries a cost."
"Why?" Elena asked, her voice softening, her hands folding over her cashmere-clad lap. "Why does it matter so much to you?"

"That doesn't make me special," Elena whispered, her heart hammering wildly in her chest. "That just makes me tired."
"It makes you rare," Dominic corrected gently. "And in my world, Elena... when you find something rare, you build a fortress around it."
Before Elena could answer, the door opened, and Mrs. Gable stepped in, carrying a large black garment bag embroidered with gold silk lettering: ATELIER VALENTINA - ROME.
"Mr. Morelli," Mrs. Gable announced. "Madame Valentina’s chief tailor has arrived from Milan. She brought the custom designs you requested."
Elena looked from the black garment bag to Dominic. "Custom designs? From Milan?"
"Valentina designs specifically for women with real curves, Elena," Dominic said, offering his hand to help her up from the chair. "Not runway models who starve themselves for sample sizes. She designed three options for you overnight."

Elena looked down at his outstretched hand. The power, the protection, the incredible wealth—it was overwhelming, almost frightening. But beneath it all, she saw a man who was looking at her body not with pity or disgust, but with absolute, reverent appreciation.
Slowly, she placed her hand in his.
