Chapter 7 - THE PURIFICATION OF THE HEIR

The mercenaries screamed as the purple fire consumed their weapons and armor, sending them fleeing down the mountain trail in pure panic.
Abigail collapsed to her knees, gasping for air. The dragon-ring was an ancient family relic that drained vast amounts of physical energy whenever activated.
Lawson pushed himself up from the snow, his strength slowly returning as the wolfsbane shock wore off.
He staggered over to Abigail, scooping her small, exhausted body into his massive arms, cradling her against his chest.
"You are full of dangerous surprises, Abigail Foster," Lawson growled softly, his golden eyes burning with awe and fierce possessiveness.
"We have to go," Abigail rasped, clutching the purple root in her hand. "Finn... we have only an hour left before the poison permanently sets in."
Lawson shifted into his giant black wolf form, carefully picking Abigail up by her cloak collar and placing her onto his broad back.
With a thunderous howl that echoed across the Northern Mountains, Lawson sprinted down the mountain trail at terrifying speed, bounding over rocks and fallen trees like a shadow in the night.
They reached the inner courtyard of Obsidian Ridge in less than ten minutes.
The fortress was eerily quiet.
Lawson shifted back into human form at the nursery doors, kicking them open with a deafening crash.
Inside, Beta Gideon and the twenty royal guards were standing over three fallen intruders, their swords dripping with blood.
"Sire!" Gideon saluted, wiping blood from his cheek. "Lady Seraphina’s agents attempted to storm the nursery five minutes ago! We neutralized them all!"
In the center of the room, cradled in a soft pile of blankets, Finn was whimpering softly, his tiny body trembling with a rising fever.
Abigail rushed past the guards, setting her satchel on the table.
"I need boiled spring water, a silver bowl, and a clean linen cloth!" she ordered sharply.
Gideon jumped to obey her commands immediately.
Abigail crushed the purple Moon-Lily root into a fine paste using a brass pestle, mixing it with fresh mint, honey, and the boiled water.
The concoction turned a brilliant, glowing lavender color, releasing a sweet, soothing steam that filled the nursery.
Lawson knelt beside the bed, gently lifting Finn into his lap, holding his son’s tiny hands.
"Hold his jaw steady," Abigail instructed.
Lawson gently supported Finn’s mouth, his touch impossibly soft for a man of his destructive power.
Abigail brought the silver cup to Finn’s lips, spooning the glowing liquid into his mouth drop by drop.
"Drink, sweet boy," Abigail whispered soothingly. "It will wash the pain away."
Finn swallowed the liquid slowly.
For three agonizing minutes, nothing happened.
Then, Finn’s eyes flew open.
A deep, black fluid began oozing from his mouth and pores—the remaining wolfsbane poison being forcibly ejected from his bone marrow by the Moon-Lily medicine.
Finn cried out, his small hands clutching Lawson’s shirt.
"Stay strong, little wolf," Lawson choked out, holding his son tight, tears streaming down his face as he watched the toxic black sludge bleed out of his child's body.
Abigail continuously wiped his skin with clean linen, washing away the poison until finally, the fluid coming from his pores turned completely clear and fresh.
Finn’s chest settled into a deep, peaceful rhythm.
His pale cheeks flushed with bright, healthy pink color. The dark circles under his eyes vanished entirely.
And then, Finn sat up in Lawson’s lap.
He looked around the room with bright, crystal-clear golden eyes—the exact same color as his father's.
Finn reached out both hands, placing them flat against Lawson’s face.
"Daddy," Finn giggled softly, a sound so clear and full of joy that every hardened guard in the room gasped. "No more hurt."
Lawson buried his face into his son's neck, weeping openly, his massive shoulders shaking as he held his healthy heir for the very first time in two years.
Finn looked over Lawson’s shoulder, holding out one hand toward Abigail.
"Mama Abi," Finn called out happily.
Abigail froze, her heart leaping into her throat as tears spilled down her cheeks.
May you like
Lawson looked up, his golden eyes locking onto Abigail with an intense, unyielding light that made the air in the room charge with electric tension.
"Mama," Lawson repeated softly, his voice echoing with absolute Alpha authority. "Yes, Finn. She is your mama now."
