Chapter 10 - The Rebirth of Ara

One year later.
The city court plaza was flooded with late afternoon sunlight. Leaves of amber and gold drifted down from the oak trees lining the wide stone steps.
Ara walked down the court steps holding a thick manila folder. She wore a tailored white trouser suit, her hair styled in soft, confident waves falling past her shoulders. Her posture was straight, her chin held high, her eyes bright and clear.
She was no longer Ara Voss. She was Ara Sterling once again.
The final decree of divorce had been signed an hour ago in Room 402. Graham Voss had been sentenced the previous week to twelve years in a federal penitentiary for financial crimes, his name disgraced, his fortune gone, his control obliterated.
Standing at the bottom of the court steps waiting for her was Tessa, holding two large iced coffees, a brilliant smile on her face.
"Free at last!" Tessa laughed, pulling Ara into a fiercely tight hug that Ara returned with equal force.
"Free at last," Ara agreed, laughing—a real, rich sound that echoed clearly across the open plaza.
"So," Tessa grinned, nudging Ara’s shoulder as they walked toward the street. "Are we celebrating at the new studio downtown?"
Ara had opened her own art gallery six months ago—a bright, open space filled with light and giant canvases painted in vibrant, fearless colors. It had already become one of the most talked-about creative spaces in the district.
"You go ahead and set up the champagne," Ara said softly, looking toward a sleek black car parked near the shade of the plaza trees. "I have one quick meeting first."
Tessa glanced at the black car, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Don't be late to your own party, boss."
"I won't."
Ara walked across the sunny plaza toward the parked car.
The rear door opened before she reached it, and Adrien Kovar stepped out into the afternoon sunlight. He looked sharp, timeless, and imposing, but the moment his gray eyes met Ara’s, his harsh features softened into a look of undeniable warmth.
"It's done," Ara said, stopping in front of him, holding up the signed court document.
Adrien looked at the paper, then raised his eyes to meet hers. "How do you feel?"
Ara took a long, deep breath—filling her lungs completely with the fresh autumn air, feeling the expansion in her chest without fear, without restriction, and without noise.
"I feel like myself," she said softly.
May you like
Adrien smiled—a small, rare, beautiful curl of his lips—and held out his hand.
Ara didn't flinch. She didn't hesitate. She stepped forward, slid her fingers firmly into his hand, and walked alongside him into the bright, open sunlight of her new life.
