Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

Two years later.

The cover of Vogue International featured a stunning photograph of Nora Bennett standing on a balcony in Milan, overlooking the cathedral spire. The caption beneath her portrait read: THE SOVEREIGN OF MODERN FASHION: HOW NORA BENNETT BUILT AN EMPIRE FROM THE ASHES.

Nora sat in her sunlit office at her flagship boutique in Manhattan, reviewing the global sales reports for her latest autumn line. Her company was now valued at over two billion dollars, outperforming every legacy fashion house in Europe and America.

The door opened, and eight-year-old Eli ran in, holding a trophy from his little league soccer game.

"Mom! Look! We won first place!" Eli cheered, holding the gold plastic cup high in the air.

Nora laughed, lifting her son into a warm embrace and kissing his cheek. "I’m so proud of you, sweetheart!"

Behind Eli stood Julian Vance, smiling warmly as he carried Eli’s gear bag. "He scored the winning goal in the final three minutes," Julian said, stepping over to kiss Nora gently on the lips.

Nora smiled, resting her head against Julian’s shoulder as Eli ran off to show his trophy to the showroom assistants.

Her phone chimed with a news notification on her desk. She glanced at the screen: Caruso Holdings Completes Restructuring under New Independent Board; Dominic Caruso Retires to Private Enterprise.

Dominic had kept his promise. He had stepped down from the spotlight, dedicating his time to rebuilding his relationship with Eli and running small, regional charities. He had never remarried.

Nora closed her phone, turning her gaze toward the large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bustling streets of Manhattan.

The slap that had attempted to destroy her five years ago had instead shattered her chains. She was no longer defined by the Caruso name, no longer hiding in the shadows of a powerful man, and no longer waiting for permission to shine.

She was Nora Bennett—a woman who had taken her pain, carved it into gold, and built an empire that would never bow again.
