Chapter 3 - THE DISSOLUTION

At two o'clock in the morning, the grand library of Blackwood Manor was charged with toxic tension.
Vivien Hail sat on a red leather sofa, her face red from crying, her platinum hair disheveled. Beside her sat her father, Richard Hail, a wealthy, arrogant shipping tycoon whose face was purple with rage. Across from them sat Ronan’s chief legal advisor, Julian Vance, who was calmly arranging a stack of legal documents on the glass coffee table.
The heavy doors clicked open, and Ronan stepped into the room, followed by Malcolm.
"Ronan!" Richard Hail roared, jumping up from the sofa. "What is the meaning of this humiliation?! You threw my daughter out of the gala! You publicly disgraced our family in front of every senator in New England!"
Ronan walked past Richard without giving him a glance, taking a seat in the leather armchair at the head of the room. He rested his elbows on the chair arms, steepling his fingers.
"Your daughter committed assault on my property, Richard," Ronan said smoothly. "In front of four hundred witnesses."
"She struck a maid!" Richard shouted, waving his hand dismissively. "A nobody! A fat, incompetent domestic servant who ruined an eight-thousand-dollar silk dress! You pay the girl a thousand dollars in hush money, and the story goes away!"
BANG.
Ronan’s hand hit the wooden table with the force of a gunshot.
The entire room went dead silent. Richard Hail flinched, stepping back.
"Choose your next words very carefully, Richard," Ronan warned, his voice dropping into an icy, lethal growl that made even Julian Vance stiffen. "The woman your daughter struck is under my personal protection. If you speak of her with disrespect again, I won't just break our contract. I will destroy Hail Logistics by Friday."
Vivien sobbed, reaching for her father’s coat. "Dad... tell him he can't do this! We have an engagement agreement!"
Julian Vance pushed a thick document across the coffee table.
"This is a formal Notice of Termination," Julian explained in a cold, professional tone. "Under Clause 14 of the Blackwood-Hail Merger Agreement, any act of moral turpitude, public violence, or criminal liability committed by either party voids the marriage contract without financial penalty."
Richard read the document, his hands beginning to shake. "This... this is financial ruin for us! We've already invested twenty million in the northern dock expansion!"
"Then I suggest you sell your shares," Ronan said, standing up. "Because as of five minutes ago, all Hail shipping vessels are barred from entering Blackwood ports globally."
"You monster!" Vivien shrieked, jumping up from the sofa. "You're ruining my life over a fat maid?! She's nothing! She's a nobody!"
Ronan turned his head, looking down at Vivien with cold, absolute disgust.
"She has more grace in her pinky finger than you have in your entire body, Vivien," Ronan said flatly. "Malcolm, escort Mr. Hail and his daughter off the premises. If either of them sets foot on Blackwood land again, have security arrest them for trespassing."
"Yes, Mr. Blackwood," Malcolm replied smoothly.
"You'll regret this, Ronan!" Richard roared as two heavy Blackwood security guards grabbed his arms, dragging him toward the door. "The Hail family will crush you!"
Ronan didn't even bother to respond. He watched the heavy oak doors slam shut, leaving the library in total silence.
Julian Vance leaned back in his chair, taking a sip of water. "That was aggressive, Ronan. The Hail family has powerful allies in the state senate."
"Let them try," Ronan replied, adjusting his cuffs. "Have my car prepared for eight o'clock tomorrow morning. I want Ivy Lancaster’s brother transferred to the specialized spinal clinic in Boston by noon."

Julian smiled faintly. "You really care about this girl, don't you?"
Ronan walked over to the window, staring into the dark night. "She didn't bend, Julian. In a world full of people who bow for money, she stood tall."
