Chapter 7 - THE AMBUSH

Three days later, rain poured heavily over the streets of downtown Boston.

Ivy was returning from the Boston Children’s Hospital, where she had spent the afternoon visiting her brother, Leo. The surgery had been a massive success—Leo was already regaining feeling in his legs and would be walking within three months.

Her private car, driven by a veteran Blackwood security guard named Frank, turned into a quiet, dark industrial avenue near the waterfront.

Suddenly, a heavy black SUV rammed into the side of their sedan with a deafening CRASH.

Ivy shrieked as the car spun across the wet pavement, crashing into an iron light pole.

"Miss Lancaster! Stay down!" Frank yelled, drawing his weapon as three armed men in black tactical gear jumped out of the SUV, firing submachine guns into the air.

Frank managed to fire two shots before a heavy rifle butt smashed through the driver’s side window, knocking him unconscious.

The rear door was torn open, and two rough hands grabbed Ivy’s arms, dragging her out into the cold rain.

"Get her in the van! Fast!" shouted a scar-faced man.

Ivy fought with all her strength, kicking and screaming. "Let me go! Get your hands off me!"

"Shut up, bitch!" the scar-faced man yelled, raising his hand to strike her across the face.

BANG!

A high-caliber sniper round tore through the scar-faced man’s shoulder, throwing him violently onto the wet asphalt.

Before the other two kidnappers could react, three black armored vehicles screeched around the corner, blocking the street entirely.

Ronan Blackwood stepped out of the lead vehicle. He wasn't wearing a suit. He wore a heavy black leather coat, his eyes burning with pure, unadulterated murder. Behind him stood twenty heavily armed Blackwood enforcers.

"Kill them all," Ronan commanded in a low, terrifying voice.

Gunfire erupted through the rain-soaked street. Within thirty seconds, all six kidnappers were dead or bleeding on the ground.

Ronan walked through the smoke and rain, stepping over the fallen men until he reached Ivy, who was sitting on the wet pavement, trembling and soaked.

"Ivy!" Ronan dropped to his knees, wrapping his heavy arms around her, pulling her tightly against his chest. "Are you hurt? Did they touch you?"

"I'm... I'm okay!" Ivy sobbed, burying her face into his neck, holding onto him as if he were her only lifeline. "Ronan... you came..."

"I will always come for you," Ronan growled into her wet hair, kissing her forehead furiously.

He stood up, lifting her effortlessly into his arms like a bride, holding her close against his chest as he walked toward his armored car.

Marcus Vance stepped up beside him. "Boss, we tracked the origin of the attack. Richard Hail and Vivien are currently at their private estate in Beacon Hill, preparing to fly out to Europe."

Ronan looked down at Ivy, who was resting her head against his chest.

"Drive us to Beacon Hill," Ronan said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "It’s time to end the Hail family permanently."
