Chapter 6 - SHADOWS OF THE SYNDICATE

While Ivy’s life was changing, the dark underbelly of the Blackwood empire was growing unstable.
Richard Hail, humiliated and ruined by the cancellation of the merger, had aligned himself with the Moretti syndicate—a ruthless Italian mafia family operating out of South Boston. Together, they planned to hit Ronan where he was most vulnerable.
Late one evening in the Blackwood Manor study, Ronan sat across from his security chief, Marcus Vance.
"Richard Hail has hired ten former military contractors," Marcus reported, laying a satellite photograph on the desk. "They're staging out of an abandoned warehouse near the South Boston docks. They know Miss Lancaster’s routine."
Ronan’s eyes narrowed into slits of lethal dark steel. "They're targeting Ivy?"
"Hail knows she's your weakness now, boss," Marcus said gravely. "He thinks if he kidnaps her, he can force you to sign over the northern dock deeds."
Ronan slowly leaned back in his leather chair, a cold, terrifying smile spreading across his face.
"He thinks she is my weakness," Ronan whispered softly. "He doesn't realize she is my reason to burn them to the ground."
At that moment, the door opened, and Ivy stepped into the study holding a tray with two fresh cups of coffee. She was wearing a cozy white cashmere sweater that clung softly to her soft, full figure.
"Am I interrupting?" she asked gently.
Ronan’s lethal expression vanished instantly, replaced by a warm, protective gaze. "Never, Ivy. Come in."
Marcus gave a respectful nod to Ivy and quietly slipped out of the room, closing the door.
Ivy set the coffee cups on the desk and walked over to Ronan’s chair. Over the past month, the professional boundary between them had blurred into a deep, intense emotional bond.
"You look tired, Ronan," Ivy said softly, reaching out to gently smooth back a stray lock of dark hair from his forehead.
Ronan reached up, catching her hand and pressing a warm, lingering kiss against the inside of her palm. "I have a lot on my mind."
"Is it about the Hail family?" she asked worriedly. "I heard Malcolm talking earlier."
Ronan pulled her gently onto his lap. Ivy gasped softly as her soft hips settled against his broad, muscular thighs, her hand resting against his broad chest.
"You don't need to worry about Richard Hail," Ronan murmured, his dark gray eyes locked onto her lips. "I will handle him."
"Ronan," Ivy whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Why are you doing all of this for me? I'm just a girl from the lower east side..."
Ronan reached up, his large hand gently cradling her neck, his thumb tracing her soft jawline.
"Because the moment I saw you standing in that ballroom, taking that whip blow without breaking... I knew you were stronger than every fake aristocrat in this city," Ronan confessed, his voice thick with raw emotion. "And because I am completely, utterly in love with you, Ivy Lancaster."

Ivy’s eyes filled with happy tears. "Ronan..."
He didn't let her speak another word. Ronan pulled her down, pressing his lips against hers in a deep, passionate, possessive kiss that consumed them both. Ivy let out a quiet sigh against his mouth, her arms wrapping tightly around his neck as she surrendered to the overwhelming heat between them.
