Chapter 4 - The Master Lock

By 4:00 PM, Victoria Vance was sitting at Sarah’s kitchen table, her sharp eyes scanning the mountain of documents spread across the granite counter.
"He was sloppy," Victoria said, tapping a red fingernail against the E&L Enterprises filing. "He used your joint credit profile as the secondary guarantor for his secret Nevada LLC. He thought you’d never look because you trusted him."
"Can he lock me out of these accounts?" Sarah asked.
Victoria offered a cold, satisfied smile. "He could have, if he had set them up cleanly. But because he used your primary signature on the guarantor forms to get higher credit limits for his mistress's expenses, you have equal administrative authority over every single one of these accounts."
"What does that mean?"
"It means," Victoria said, leaning forward, "you don't need a judge's permission to freeze his life. You are a fifty-percent owner of the LLC, and a primary account holder on the joint credit lines. You can shut them down today."
"Do it," Sarah said.
For the next two hours, Sarah sat beside Victoria, executing a sequence of precise, devastating financial maneuvers:
First, Sarah revoked her authorization on the $150,000 primary joint credit line that paid for Lauren Hayes’s Manhattan apartment and credit cards.
Second, she transferred her legal fifty-percent share of the liquid capital in the secondary operational account—$420,000—into an escrow account established by Victoria’s law firm, completely freezing the remaining balance pending judicial review.
Third, she called the dealership that leased the red Porsche 911. Because the lease was under the joint LLC and two months of payments had been delayed by Ethan to pay for Lauren’s jewelry, Sarah authorized an immediate voluntary surrender of the vehicle.
Fourth, she contacted the corporate HR department of Ethan’s company, submitting a formal notice that her signature had been used without notarization on his secondary executive benefit enrollment forms, triggering an automatic internal compliance audit.
By 6:30 PM, Ethan’s financial life had been reduced to an empty shell. His primary credit cards were declined, his secret accounts were frozen, his luxury car was scheduled for repossession, and his firm’s legal department was opening an investigation into his expense reports.
"He’ll get notification within the hour," Victoria said, packing her leather briefcase. "How do you want to handle tonight?"

Sarah looked at the clock on the wall. It was almost time for Ethan to come home for dinner.
"I’m going to make him his favorite meal," Sarah said softly.
