Chapter 10 - The Master’s Heart

Late that night, long after the last guest had departed and the ballroom lights had dimmed, the lake house returned to its peaceful, quiet solitude.
A soft, white snow was falling outside, blanketing the Illinois estate in a clean, quiet layer of winter beauty.
In the master suite on the third floor, a bright fire crackled in the stone fireplace, casting a warm, golden glow across the plush room.
Damian sat on the edge of the massive king-sized bed, wearing dark lounge pants, his chest bare, showing the light, faded pink scar on his ribs where Hazel had patched him up two weeks ago.
Hazel walked out of the adjoining bathroom, wearing one of his oversized white button-down dress shirts that hung down to her knees. Her hair was loose, cascading over her shoulders in soft, natural waves.
She walked across the warm carpet, climbing onto the bed, and slid into his lap.
Damian’s arms wrapped around her instantly, pulling her soft body tight against his chest. He buried his face in her neck, inhaling the sweet, familiar scent of vanilla and clean rain that had become his absolute sanctuary.
"Are you happy, little mouse?" Damian murmured near her ear, his hand gently stroking her smooth thigh.
Hazel snuggled closer against him, resting her cheek flat against his warm chest, listening to the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her ear.
Thump, thump, thump.
It was the same heartbeat she had listened to on the leather sofa when she was terrified, cold, and hopeless. But now, it beat entirely for her.
"I have never been happier, Damian," Hazel whispered, raising her head to look into his dark gray eyes. "I have a home. I have safety. And I have you."
Damian looked down at her small, sweet face, feeling a profound wave of gratitude wash over his soul.
The rule was gone. The cold walls had crumbled. The untouchable mob boss had finally found his home in the soft, loving arms of his shy maid.
May you like
"You will always have me, Hazel," Damian vowed, his voice deep, rough, and filled with eternal devotion. "In this life, and the next."
He leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a tender, slow, exquisite kiss as the snow fell softly outside their window, sealing their hearts together in the warm, unbreakable embrace of a forever love.
