Chapter 9 - The Freedom of Brianna

While the police cleared the ballroom and escorted the arrested Vance men out through the hotel lobby, where dozens of news cameras were waiting, I walked over to the quiet corner where Brianna was standing.

She hadn't run. She hadn't cried. She was standing near the grand window, watching the rain slant against the glass, her hands resting peacefully at her sides.

I pulled off my white lace gloves and set them on the table.

“It’s over, Brianna,” I said softly.

Brianna turned to face me. For the first time since I had met her in that dark Buckhead mansion, she wasn't wearing an oversized sweater to hide her body. She stood tall, her shoulders back, her eyes clear and shining with tears that were no longer born of fear, but of absolute liberation.

Elena walked over, carrying a red leather folder.

“Brianna,” Elena said gently, opening the folder. “Based on the evidence retrieved from Damian’s drive, the state attorney general has issued an immediate asset freeze on all Vance Global holdings. We have already filed a civil motion to void every agreement Damian forced you to sign under duress.”

Brianna looked at the legal documents, her hands trembling as she touched the paper. “My... my father’s shipping company?”

“The liquidation proceeds were held in an escrow account that was frozen tonight,” Elena explained with a smile. “Within sixty days, full legal control of Sterling Logistics will be restored to you, along with eight million dollars in compensatory damages from the Vance estate.”

Brianna covered her mouth with both hands, letting out a long, ragged sob—a sound that carried the weight of three years of pain, fear, and silence finally breaking free.

I wrapped my arms around her, holding her tightly as she wept against my shoulder.

“You saved my life, Alyssa,” she whispered into my ear, her fingers clutching the silk of my dress. “You saved me.”

“We saved each other,” I whispered back, kissing her cheek. “No woman kneels in that house ever again.”
