Chapter 10 - Wings Over the Mediterranean

Six months later.

The warm summer sun sparkled over the deep azure waters of the Amalfi Coast.

High on a cliffside terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, a beautiful white villa was surrounded by blooming bougainvillea, lemon trees, and private gardens.

Evelyn sat on a cushioned lounge chair on the sunlit terrace, wearing a white linen dress and sunglasses, enjoying a plate of fresh figs and chi

lled sparkling lemonade.

On the table beside her lay a small, beautifully bound leather notebook—the new training curriculum for the Foster Aviation Safety Foundation, a global non-profit organization she had founded with Antonio to provide medical training, legal support, and safety resources for international flight crews worldwide.

Footsteps echoed softly across the terracotta tiles.

Antonio walked onto the terrace, wearing a comfortable light blue linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, carrying two letters in his hand.

He dropped onto one knee beside her lounge chair, kissing her cheek with warm affection.

“Good morning, my beautiful chairwoman,” Antonio smiled softly.

Evelyn laughed, sliding her sunglasses up onto her head. “Good morning, Don Antonio. What do you have there?”

“A letter from your sister in Ohio,” Antonio said, handing her the envelope. “She says the new home you bought her in Columbus is magnificent, and she cannot wait to visit us in Amalfi next month.”

“And the second letter?” Evelyn asked, pointing to the thick parchment envelope with an official gold airline crest.

Antonio opened the second letter, a soft, proud smile touching his lips.

“It is from the chief executive officer of your former airline,” Antonio read aloud. “They are officially dedicating the new international safety academy in New York in your name: The Evelyn Foster Aviation Center.”

Evelyn felt a lump of sweet, quiet emotion rising in her throat. She looked out over the vast, glittering blue horizon of the Mediterranean Sea, where a single passenger jet was tracing a white contrail high in the clear sky.

“Six months ago,” Evelyn murmured softly, resting her hand gently against Antonio’s cheek, “I was terrified my life was over when that plane landed in Ireland.”

Antonio turned his head, kissing the palm of her hand with profound tenderness.

“Your life didn't end, Evelyn,” Antonio whispered, looking into her clear green eyes with deep, unshakeable love. “It was just taking off.”

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, exquisite velvet box, opening it to reveal a breathtaking ring—a brilliant emerald surrounded by delicate diamonds, reflecting the green hills of Ireland and the clear waters of Italy.

“Evelyn Foster,” Antonio said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. “You saved my life in the sky. Will you spend the rest of yours with me on earth?”

Evelyn looked at the ring, then into the eyes of the man who had protected her, honored her, and loved her beyond measure.

Tears of pure happiness overflowed her lashes as she smiled radiantly, pulling him close to her heart.

“Yes, Antonio,” Evelyn whispered into the warm sea breeze. “A thousand times, yes.”

High above the Amalfi Coast, the silver jet disappeared into the bright, endless sky, leaving behind a clear path of light over the tranquil sea below.
