Chapter 10 - THE QUEEN'S REIGN

One year later.
The morning sun shone bright and warm over the cemetery.
The wet mud was gone, replaced by lush, manicured green grass. The gray headstone of ELEANOR WHITFIELD had been restored, surrounded by a breathtaking bed of fresh white roses that were maintained daily by the estate's head gardener.
A sleek black Maybach stood quietly at the cemetery gates.
Mara walked along the stone path, wearing a simple, elegant cream dress. Beside her walked Gabriel, holding her hand, while carrying a bright, laughing one-year-old Leo in his other arm.
Little Leo wore a cute little blue sweater, his bright gray eyes wide with curiosity as he babbled happily, waving his tiny hands at the flowers.
They reached Eleanor's headstone.
Mara knelt down gently—not in mud, not in fear, and not as a helpless maid. She placed a fresh bouquet of white lilies at the base of the grave.
She touched the stone softly.
"Hi, Mom," Mara whispered, a peaceful, radiant smile on her face. "Look who I brought to see you today."
Gabriel knelt beside her, setting little Leo down on the soft grass between them. The baby laughed, reaching out to pat the green grass near the flowers.
Gabriel wrapped his arm firmly around Mara's waist, pulling her close against his side.
"She would be so proud of you, Mara," Gabriel said softly, looking at his wife.
Mara looked down at her wrist. The little silver bracelet—cleaned, restored, and reinforced with a platinum chain by Gabriel's jeweler—sparkled brilliantly in the warm sunlight.
She remembered her mother's words from years ago: No matter how low you are made to kneel, you will remember who you are as long as you look at it.
She wasn't just a survivor anymore.
She was a mother. She was a wife. She was the indisputable Queen of the Valentine Empire, loved and cherished by the most powerful man in the state.
Mara turned her head, looking up into Gabriel's devoted gray eyes, then down at their happy, healthy son playing on the grass.

The slaps, the tears, the mud, and the cruelty were all in the past, burned away by a fierce, unyielding love that had conquered every shadow.
Mara leaned into Gabriel's kiss as the warm afternoon breeze rustled through the trees, carrying her peace out across the endless sky.
