Chapter 9 - THE HEALING OF THE KING

Three months later.
The city of Chicago was bustling under a bright summer sun.
At the Blackwood Foundation Headquarters downtown, a major press conference was underway. Hundreds of reporters, photographers, and local news crews filled the grand auditorium.
Sitting on the main stage were city officials, medical directors, and representatives from community outreach programs funded by the newly established Arthur Blackwood Memorial Fund.
At the center podium stood Victor Blackwood.
He wore an immaculate navy suit, standing tall, proud, and completely unassisted before the flashing cameras.
"For six months," Victor spoke into the bank of microphones, his voice carrying an unquestioned authority across the crowded room, "the world believed I was broken. The world believed that tragedy had rendered me helpless."
The room was completely silent, every reporter hanging on his every word.
"In reality," Victor continued, looking directly at the front row where Emma sat wearing a stunning emerald-green dress, "tragedy only showed me who truly mattered. It showed me that real strength isn't found in weapons, territory, or fear. It is found in the people who stand beside you when the dark comes."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause as Victor stepped back from the podium!
Emma stood up, clapping proudly, her eyes shining with tears of joy.
Victor stepped down from the stage, walking straight past the reporters and city officials, stopping right in front of Emma.
He reached out, taking her hand and pulling her into his arms right in front of fifty flashing cameras.
"Mr. Blackwood!" a reporter shouted over the noise. "Is this woman your new security chief?!"
Victor looked down at Emma, a brilliant, breathtaking smile illuminating his sharp face.
"She's the woman who saved my life," Victor announced loudly to the room. "And starting today, she's my fiancée."

The room exploded into even louder cheers and blinding camera flashes!
Emma laughed, throwing her arms around his neck as Victor lifted her off her feet, spinning her around in the center of the hall before pressing his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that silenced every camera in the room.
