Chapter 7 - The Bloodline Protected

Maddie backed away until her hips hit the steel counter inside the bunker.
Dr. Evans stood in front of her, raising her hands trembling in terror. “She’s pregnant! Please—she’s eight months pregnant!”
Mateo didn't even look at the doctor. He raised his handgun, pointing it directly at Dr. Evans’ chest—
BANG!
A single, terrifyingly heavy gunshot echoed from the top of the concrete stairs!
Mateo’s head snapped backward as a bullet struck his shoulder, spinning him around! He collapsed onto the cold concrete, screaming in agony as his weapon clattered across the floor.
Standing at the top of the stairs, framed by smoke and holding a heavy black shotgun, was Dominic.
He looked like a demon emerging from hell.
His shirt was torn, blood splattered across his cheekbone, his dark eyes burning with an absolute, apocalyptic fury that made the air in the room freeze.
Behind him, six of his elite guards flooded down the stairs, disarming the remaining DeLuca men in seconds with brutal, lethal efficiency.
Dominic tossed the shotgun onto the floor, stepping over Mateo’s bleeding form without a single glance, and sprinted into the bunker.
“Madeline!” he roared, his hands instantly sweeping over her shoulders, her waist, her arms, checking every inch of her for blood. “Are you hit?! Tell me! Are you hit?!”
Maddie’s legs gave out completely.
Dominic caught her before she could hit the floor, pulling her flush against his chest, wrapping his heavy arms around her, kissing her hair, her forehead, her cheeks in a wild, frantic frenzy.
“I’m okay... I’m okay,” Maddie sobbed into his neck, her arms locking around his shoulders, holding onto him with everything she had. “You came... you came back...”
“I will always come back for you,” Dominic rasped, his voice breaking as he buried his face in her neck, his broad frame trembling with pure adrenaline and terror. “I will always come back.”
Suddenly, a sharp, terrifying contraction seized Maddie’s entire lower body, so intense she let out a loud, breathless cry!
Dominic pulled back instantly, his dark eyes wide with panic. “Maddie? What is it?!”
Dr. Evans quickly dropped to her knees beside them, placing a hand on Maddie’s abdomen, feeling the rock-hard tension of the womb.

“Her water just broke,” Dr. Evans announced, her voice urgent. “The trauma triggered immediate labor! Dominic, we need to get her up to the medical suite now!”
Dominic didn't hesitate. He gathered Maddie into his arms, lifting her effortlessly against his chest, and ran up the stairs through the smoke and broken glass, carrying her toward the wing where their son was waiting to be born.
