Chapter 6 - THE BOARDROOM WAR

By Friday morning, news of an emergency board meeting had sent shockwaves through the corporate corridors of Sterling & Vale Holdings.
Rumors circulated wildly. Some claimed a foreign hedge fund was launching a hostile takeover. Others whispered that the Crestview deal had fallen through.
Harrison walked into the grand executive boardroom on the thirty-fourth floor looking triumphant. He wore a brand-new suit, carrying a leather briefcase, confident that his promotion to Managing Director would be finalized before noon.
The room was packed. Twenty board members sat around the massive oval table, surrounded by legal counsel and senior partners.
At 10:00 a.m. sharp, Alexander Sterling entered the room.
He looked imposing, clad in a immaculate dark suit, his expression cold and unreadable. But he wasn't alone.
Walking directly beside him was Lena Carter.
She wore a sharp, tailored black blazer suit, her hair styled in a sleek, professional knot, carrying a silver encrypted tablet. She moved with quiet grace and absolute confidence, taking her seat at the executive presentation desk right beside Alexander.
Harrison frowned, glaring across the table at Lena. "Alexander, excuse me, but why is a junior analyst attending an executive board session?"
Alexander didn't sit down. He stood at the head of the table, resting his hands flat on the mahogany surface.
"Miss Carter is no longer a junior analyst," Alexander announced, his voice echoing authoritatively through the silent room. "As of eight this morning, she has been appointed Principal Auditor of Sterling & Vale."
A collective gasp rippled through the board.
Harrison’s face turned bright red. "Principal Auditor?! That's preposterous! She lacks the tenure! She's been here six months! This is favoritism because of some absurd situation with your mother—"
"Silence, Harrison," Alexander said coldly.
Alexander tapped his tablet. Instantly, the massive high-definition screens mounted along the boardroom walls illuminated.
Instead of the Crestview acquisition deck, a massive document appeared titled: INTERNAL AUDIT FORENSIC INVESTIGATION: 2005–2026.
Harrison’s face drained of all color in a fraction of a second.
"Twenty-one years ago," Alexander began, walking slowly along the perimeter of the table, "a brilliant auditor named Daniel Carter identified a forty-million-dollar valuation fraud within this firm. He was framed, ruined, and driven out of the industry."
Alexander stopped directly behind Harrison’s chair.
"For two decades, the perpetrators of that fraud believed their secrets were buried," Alexander continued softly. "Until Daniel Carter’s daughter walked into this building and unravelled their entire offshore network in fifteen minutes."
Lena stood up, tapping her screen. A series of banking records, email threads, and digital signature logs flashed across the walls.
"This is the off-ledger account associated with Crestview Holdings," Lena announced, her voice calm, clear, and unyielding. "It contains twelve million dollars in diverted corporate funds. The account was opened using an administrative override key belonging to Mr. Harrison."
"That's a lie!" Harrison shrieked, standing up so fast his chair fell backward onto the carpet. "She forged those documents! She's getting revenge for her father!"
"The digital forensics were verified three hours ago by the Federal Bureau of Investigation," Alexander said flatly.
Right on cue, the double glass doors of the boardroom clicked open.
Four uniformed federal agents, accompanied by two SEC prosecutors, stepped into the room.
"Edward Harrison," the lead agent announced, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and evidence tampering."
Harrison staggered backward, looking frantically around the room at his fellow board members, but every single person looked away, distancing themselves from the falling man.
As the agents stepped forward and clicked the steel cuffs around Harrison’s wrists, he looked at Lena with wild, desperate eyes.
"You..." Harrison rasped, his voice trembling with pathetic rage. "You destroyed me..."
May you like
Lena looked him straight in the eye, her posture straight, her dignity unsullied.
"You destroyed yourself twenty-one years ago, Mr. Harrison," Lena said softly. "I just brought my father’s truth back into the light."
