Chapter 9 - THE SIEGE OF OAK STREET

The elimination of Julian broke the Maronis' access to Ravi’s intelligence, but it also drove Matteo into a state of blind, suicidal desperation.
Knowing his empire was collapsing under Ravi’s systematic retaliation, Matteo decided to launch a final, catastrophic strike where Ravi was most vulnerable.
Not at the Sovereign Tower. Not at the harbor.
At the safehouse where Sadi was living.
It happened on a rainy Thursday afternoon. Diane was at the penthouse reviewing security protocols with Victor when her personal phone rang.
It was the lead security guard assigned to Sadi’s house.
"Miss Harper! We are under heavy fire!" the guard screamed over the sound of automatic weapon bursts and shattering glass. "Three vehicles just rammed the perimeter gate! They’re Maroni’s men! They’re trying to breach the front door!"
Diane’s phone slipped from her hand, shattering on the stone floor.
"Sadi," she gasped, her face going stark white.
Ravi was across the room instantly, catching her before her legs gave out. "What happened?"
"They're at Sadi's house!" Diane shrieked, grabbing his lapels with wild, hysterical strength. "Matteo’s men are inside the house! Ravi, please! Please save her!"
Ravi didn't ask questions. He didn't call the police.
He turned to Victor. "Call the strike team. All cars. Now."
Within two minutes, four armored SUVs were roaring out of the Sovereign Tower’s underground garage, running red lights across the city at eighty miles an hour, their sirens blaring through the rain.
Ravi sat in the back of the lead vehicle, holding a heavy black tactical rifle across his knees. Beside him, Diane clutched a secondary pistol Victor had handed her, her knuckles white, her heart screaming in agony.
"Hold on, Diane," Ravi said, his eyes burning with an unholy, terrifying fire. "Nobody touches your sister. Nobody."
When they arrived at the uptown residence ten minutes later, the scene was a warzone.
The front iron gates had been flattened. Two black vans were parked across the lawn, their doors open. Smoke was pouring from the second-story windows of the house, and the sound of gunfire echoed across the manicured neighborhood.
Ravi’s convoy didn't slow down. The lead SUV rammed directly into the side of one of the attacker's vans, flipping it onto its side in a shower of sparks and crushed metal.
"STAY IN THE CAR!" Ravi commanded Diane as his men poured out of the vehicles, opening fire on the remaining Maroni mercenaries with ruthless, overwhelming violence.
Diane didn't listen.
The moment Ravi crossed the threshold into the house, she opened her car door and ran straight through the smoke and gunfire toward the front entrance.
Inside, the grand foyer was wrecked. Bullet holes peppered the plaster walls, glass covered the floor, and two of Ravi’s guards lay wounded near the staircase, still firing up toward the second floor.
Diane scrambled up the stairs, ignoring the deafening bangs echoed around her.
"SADI!" she screamed. "SADI!"
She reached the master bedroom at the end of the hall. The door had been kicked off its hinges.
Inside, standing near the window, was Don Matteo Maroni himself. He was bleeding from a graze on his forehead, his suit ruined, holding a silver revolver. In front of him, backed into the corner behind an overturned desk, was ten-year-old Sadi, weeping hysterically, her hands covering her ears.
"Stay back, you bitch!" Matteo screamed, spinning around and pointing the revolver directly at Diane’s chest as she entered the room. "I’ll blow her head off! I’ll kill both of you!"
Diane stopped dead in her tracks. She looked at her little sister—scared, helpless, cornered.
The same fear that had gripped her in the kitchen on Oak Street returned, but this time, it transformed instantly into a cold, absolute, murderous rage.
"You touch my sister," Diane whispered, taking a slow step forward, "and I will tear your throat out with my teeth."
Matteo chuckled insanely, raising his thumb to cock the hammer of the gun. "You think you're brave because you sleep with Ravi Greedy? You're nothing! You're just a—"
THWACK.
A six-inch tactical blade burst through the front of Matteo’s throat from behind.
Matteo’s eyes bulged in horror. He dropped the revolver, his hands clutching frantically at his neck as he collapsed onto the rug.
Behind him stood Ravi.
His face was covered in soot and blood, his black shirt torn at the shoulder, holding the handle of the tactical knife he had thrown with terrifying precision through the doorway.
Ravi stepped over Matteo’s body without giving the dying man a single glance.
He walked over to the corner, dropped to his knees, and wrapped his broad arms around Sadi, pulling the weeping child into his chest.
"You're safe, little one," Ravi murmured softly, his voice dropping into a tender, gentle tone Diane had never heard before. "The bad man is gone. I've got you."
May you like
Sadi buried her face in Ravi’s blood-stained shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably.
Diane dropped to her knees beside them, wrapping her arms around both of them, her tears finally overflowing as the nightmare collapsed into silence.
