Chapter 4 - The Infiltrated Estate

Damian’s knuckles turned white around the phone casing. "Trace this ping," he ordered Leo, his voice dropping into a guttural growl. "Use the satellite array on Node 4."

"I'm already on it," Leo gritted out, typing furiously into his handheld terminal. "It's bouncing off an encrypted proxy in Zurich, but I can trace the primary source if—"

Vibrating chime.

A third message arrived on Damian’s screen.

It was an image file.

Damian tapped the screen. The image loaded slowly, pixel by pixel.

It showed Khloe sitting tied to a heavy iron chair in a damp, windowless concrete basement. Her hands were bound behind her back with industrial wire. Her mouth was covered with black tape. A dark bruise was blooming along her left temple, but her hazel eyes were open, filled with a fierce, quiet defiance as she looked directly into the camera lens.

Damian felt his blood run ice-cold.

It was not the sight of Khloe bound in a basement that froze his chest.

It was what was visible in the background of the photo behind her chair.

Positioned against the damp concrete wall behind her was a massive, arch-shaped wrought-iron wine rack filled with oak barrels, stamped with a custom family crest: a lion rampant over an anvil.

It was the private wine cellar of the Russo Estate in Greenwich, Connecticut.

A ninety-acre, heavily fortified compound guarded by twenty armed men, motion sensors, infrared perimeters, and biometric gates.

The person who had taken Khloe hadn't driven her to an abandoned warehouse in New Jersey or a hidden dock in Queens.

They had brought her directly into Damian’s own home.

"Leo," Damian said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. "Get in the car."

May you like

"Did you get a location?" Leo asked, raising his weapon.

Damian looked at him, his amber eyes burning with a terrifying, absolute fury. "They are inside my house."
