Chapter 7 - THE FALL OF THE DYNASTY

Silence descended upon the penthouse board room—a silence so absolute you could hear the rain striking the high windows forty floors above the earth.
Attorney Vance dropped his pen onto the table with a loud clatter. He looked at Eleanor, then at Julian, before slowly closing his briefcase.
"Richard?" Eleanor said, her voice shaking for the first time. "What are you doing?"
"I am withdrawing as your corporate counsel, Eleanor," Vance said, standing up and pulling his coat over his shoulders. "If she has sent the raw transaction ledgers directly to Investigator Miller, federal warrants will be issued before sunrise. I suggest you retain criminal defense attorneys immediately."
Vance didn't look back as he walked straight to the elevator, leaving the Sterling family completely isolated.
"You bitch!" Julian roared, losing all control. He lunged across the table toward me, his face twisted in a mask of pure rage!
"BACK UP!" Maya shouted, stepping forward and brandishing a heavy metal flashlight she had lifted from the lobby desk.
Julian stopped, breathing heavily, his hands trembling with fury. "You destroyed us! You destroyed my family!"
"No, Julian," I said, staring at him with complete detachment. "You destroyed yourselves the moment you decided that people's lives were just commodities to be used and discarded."
Eleanor collapsed back into her chair, clutching her pearl necklace, her eyes wide with unadulterated horror as the empire she spent decades building crumbled into ashes right in front of her.
"Valerie," I said, turning to the woman who had stood silently behind me the entire time. "Your legal team will have everything they need tomorrow to dissolve the guardianship order and reclaim your remaining assets."
Valerie looked at me, fresh tears streaming down her face—not tears of grief, but tears of freedom. "Thank you, Clara. Thank you."
I took one last look at Julian.
He looked pitiful standing there in his unbuttoned tuxedo shirt, surrounded by glossy mahogany and cold glass, entirely stripped of his wealth, his prestige, and his lies.
"Goodbye, Julian," I said quietly.
We turned and walked toward the elevator.
"Clara! Wait!" Julian pleaded, his voice cracking, stumbling after us. "Clara, please! We can fix this! I can change! I swear to God, I love you!"
As the elevator doors began to slide shut, I looked Julian dead in the eye.

"You are nothing," I said.
The doors closed, severing him from my life forever.
