Chapter 9 - CLEANING HOUSE

Forty-eight hours later.
The news broke across every global financial network in the world:
HARRINGTON GLOBAL VICE CHAIRMAN ARRESTED FOR MURDER AND CORPORATE FRAUD.
VICTORIA SINCLAIR FACES FEDERAL EXTRACTED CHARGES AFTER FAKE PREGNANCY SCHEME EXPOSED.
ETHAN HARRINGTON ASSUMES FULL CONTROL OF $40 BILLION EMPIRE.
Inside the executive corner office of Harrington Global headquarters in midtown Manhattan, Ethan sat behind his massive glass desk.
The afternoon sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the city below.
Arthur Vance sat in a leather armchair across from him, sipping green tea.
"Julian's legal team offered a full guilty plea this morning," Vance said, setting his cup down. "He'll spend the rest of his life in a federal penitentiary in upstate New York. Victoria has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for a reduced sentence."
Ethan looked out over the skyline, holding a framed photograph of his mother that had been retrieved from his grandfather's vault.
"And the company?" Ethan asked softly.
"The stock took a five percent dip yesterday when the headlines hit," Vance replied with a faint smile. "But once the board announced that you were taking absolute voting control with eighty-two percent of the master shares, the stock bounced back twelve percent. The market likes stability, Ethan. And they like you."
There was a soft knock at the office door.
Ethan's secretary stepped in, looking amused. "Mr. Harrington? Your 2:00 PM appointment is here."
Ethan smiled—his first genuine smile in weeks. "Send them in."
The heavy glass doors opened, and Nora walked into the pristine executive suite, wearing a simple blue dress. Next to her, holding a brand-new, giant plush rabbit that was nearly as big as she was, was Lily.
Lily looked around the massive office with wide, bright eyes. "Mr. Ethan! Your room is bigger than the ballroom!"
Ethan stood up from his desk, walked around the glass table, and knelt down on one knee in front of the little girl.
"Hey, Lily," Ethan said gently. "How do you like your new rabbit?"
"He's soft," Lily said happily, hugging the stuffed animal. "Mommy said we don't have to sweep the floors anymore."
Ethan looked up at Nora, who had tears in her eyes.
"Nora," Ethan said, standing up. "I've instructed the family trust to transfer ownership of the estate's east cottage to you permanently. Furthermore, a ten-million-dollar educational trust fund has been established in Lily's name today."

Nora covered her mouth with both hands, shaking her head in utter disbelief. "Ethan... no, Mr. Ethan, I can't accept that! We were just doing what was right!"
"You saved my life, Nora," Ethan said, his voice filled with deep sincerity. "And Lily saved this entire company. It's not charity—it's what my grandfather would have wanted."
