Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

At 6:00 a.m. the following morning, the sun rose over the Pacific Ocean, casting a pale pink light across the private terrace of the Malibu safehouse.

The estate, hidden behind iron gates and dense pine trees on a cliff above the water, was entirely surrounded by armed guards.

Inside the main living room, a fire crackled in the stone fireplace. Maria, her head still wrapped in bandages, sat on a plush sofa, weeping tears of pure joy as she held seven-year-old Noah tightly in her arms. The boy, confused but sensing his mother's relief, rested his head against her shoulder, holding a wooden toy car Daniel had bought for him on the way over.

In the master bedroom down the hall, a team of private physicians had just removed Andrew’s IV lines.

Daniel stood at the foot of the bed, watching his younger brother sleep. Andrew was clean now, dressed in soft cotton clothes, his hair trimmed. Though he was thin and bruised, the resemblance to their father was undeniable.

Andrew’s eyes slowly fluttered open. He looked around the room, taking in the ocean view, the warm wood paneling, and finally, the tall figure standing at the end of his bed.

"Daniel?" Andrew whispered, his voice stronger now that the Mexican sedatives were wearing off.

Daniel walked over and sat on the edge of the mattress. He reached out and grabbed his brother's hand. Andrew’s grip was surprisingly tight.

"I'm here, Andy," Daniel said, using the childhood nickname he hadn't spoken in six years. "You're safe. You're in Malibu."

Tears spilled from Andrew's eyes. "I tried... I tried to hide, Dan. I didn't want them to hurt you or Mom. Harrison... Harrison found me. He kept me locked away... he told me you were dead."

"I know," Daniel said gently, squeezing his hand. "I know everything. Harrison and Vanessa are done, Andy. I promise you, they will never hurt you or your family again."

"Maria..." Andrew gasped, trying to sit up. "Noah... are they—"

"They're in the next room," Daniel smiled, a tear sliding down his own cheek. "Noah is a handsome little guy. He has your eyes."

Andrew covered his face with his thin hands and wept silently, his shoulders shaking. Daniel pulled his brother into a tight embrace, holding him for the years they had lost, for the mother who wasn't there to see this day, and for the long road of healing that lay ahead.

Ten minutes later, Daniel walked out onto the terrace. Marcus Vance was waiting for him, holding an iPad.

"Sir," Marcus said, "Vanessa has been trying to contact her team in East LA and the clinic in Mexico for the past two hours. Neither group is responding. She knows something has gone wrong."

"Has she left the Beverly Hills mansion?" Daniel asked.

"No," Marcus replied. "She and her father just arrived there together. They're waiting for you. Harrison brought his corporate legal team."

Daniel took a sip of dark coffee, looking out over the crashing ocean waves. The grief and pain that had weighed on his chest for six years had transformed into something else—something sharp, focused, and utterly merciless.

"Call the District Attorney," Daniel ordered. "Tell him I have the complete financial forensic audit of Harrison Hart's offshore accounts, the recorded confession of his lead enforcer, and two living witnesses for charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, and high-level corporate fraud."

"And what about the wedding press conference scheduled for noon today?" Marcus asked with a subtle smirk.

Daniel set his coffee cup down on the glass table.

"Tell the media to bring their cameras to the Beverly Hills estate," Daniel said smoothly. "We're going to give them a story they'll never forget."
