Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at the Estate

At 11:30 a.m., three luxury black sedans pulled through the iron gates of the Whitmore estate in Beverly Hills.

Inside the grand parlor, Harrison Hart paced back and forth across the Persian rug, clutching a crystal tumbler of scotch. Vanessa sat on the velvet sofa, her fingers frantically tapping on her phone screen. Her face was pale, her composure completely shattered.

"They're not answering, Dad!" Vanessa hissed, her voice sharp with panic. "Neither the Ensenada facility nor the team in East LA! Something happened!"

"Shut up and think, Vanessa!" Harrison snapped, pouring himself another drink. "Daniel doesn't know how to execute a tactical extraction. He's a businessman! He probably paid off the guards or tried to negotiate. As long as we hold the financial leverage over Whitmore Holdings, he can't touch us without destroying his own company."

The heavy oak doors of the parlor swung open.

Daniel stepped into the room. He wore a perfectly tailored charcoal-gray suit, his hair neatly styled, his expression unreadable. Behind him walked four men in dark suits carrying heavy leather briefcases.

Vanessa stood up instantly, forcing a smile that didn't reach her wide, terrified eyes.

"Daniel!" she exclaimed, stepping toward him. "Sweetheart, where have you been? I was so worried about you! You didn't come home last night..."

Daniel didn't move. He didn't even look at her. He walked past her as if she were made of air, taking a seat behind his father’s grand mahogany desk at the end of the room.

"Harrison," Daniel said calmly. "Vanessa. Please, sit."

Harrison sneered, setting his glass down with a heavy thud. "Drop the executive act, Daniel. Where are my men in East LA? Why isn't the Ensenada facility picking up my calls?"

Daniel casually unbuttoned his suit jacket and rested his hands on the desk.

"Your men in East LA are currently in federal custody, giving sworn statements to the FBI," Daniel revealed smoothly. "And the Clínica de la Costa in Ensenada has been cleared out. It turns out that when you stop paying local Mexican officials under the table, they are surprisingly cooperative with international law enforcement."

Harrison’s face turned the color of ash. He took a staggering step backward, grabbing the edge of the mantelpiece for support. "You... you couldn't have..."

"Andrew is safe," Daniel continued, his voice echoing in the vast, silent room. "He is currently under the protection of federal marshals. And so are Maria and my nephew, Noah."

Vanessa let out a strangled gasp, her hands flying to her mouth. "Daniel... please... listen to me..."

"Six years ago," Daniel said, his eyes locking onto Harrison with predatory intensity, "you tried to murder my brother to cover up your theft of eighty million dollars from my family's company. When he survived, you hid him away like an animal, using him to blackmail my family and force your way into our inner circle."

"You have no proof!" Harrison roared, his voice shaking with desperate rage. "It's your word against mine! The board will never believe a brain-damaged ghost over me!"

"I don't need the board to believe me, Harrison," Daniel said softly. He tapped a button on his desk intercom. "Marcus, send them in."

The double doors swung open once more.

Stepping into the room were six armed federal agents, led by Special Agent Richardson of the FBI's Financial Crimes and Violent Crimes Task Forces. Behind them were two uniformed LAPD officers.

"Harrison Hart, Vanessa Hart," Agent Richardson announced, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, and interstate extortion."

"This is an outrage!" Harrison screamed as the officers stepped forward, grabbing his arms and forcing them behind his back. "Do you know who I am? I am the primary shareholder of Hart Global! Call my lawyers!"

Vanessa didn't scream. She sank to her knees on the Persian rug, her expensive dress pooling around her as the cold steel cuffs clicked around her slender wrists.

She looked up at Daniel, her eyes filled with a desperate, pathetic plea. "Daniel... I loved you... I really did... please don't do this to me..."

Daniel stood up from behind the desk. He walked slowly over to where she knelt on the floor, leaning down until his face was inches from hers.

May you like

"You dragged an innocent woman across broken glass in my home," Daniel whispered, his voice laced with absolute ice. "You threatened a seven-year-old child. You helped starve my brother in a concrete cell. You never loved me, Vanessa. You loved my money and your own greed. And now, you're going to spend the rest of your life reflecting on what that cost you."

He stood back up, nodding to the LAPD officers. "Take them away."
