Chapter 10 - The Master of the House

One year later.

The autumn sun bathed the grounds of the Castellano estate in rich shades of amber, gold, and crimson.

The cold, sterile fortress that had once felt like a gloomy mausoleum was now vibrant, alive, and overflowing with laughter. The grand gardens were filled with blooming flowers, the security staff walked with bright smiles, and the scent of fresh baking drifted through the high marble corridors every single day.

Evelyn Price, who had completely transformed over the past eighteen months, stood in the main hallway holding a clipboard, reviewing the evening’s dinner guest list with a soft, pleasant smile on her face. She no longer checked coffee temperatures with a digital probe; she had realized that love was far more effective than fear.

Inside Dominic’s private study, the grand mahogany desk was covered with an assortment of items: leather financial reports, architectural blueprints for a new children’s hospital wing in the city, a wooden bowl filled with Mara’s fresh cinnamon cookies, and a small plush dog toy.

Dominic sat in his high-backed leather executive chair, dressed in a comfortable linen shirt with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

Sitting directly in his lap was his three-month-old daughter, Julia—a breathtaking baby girl possessing her father’s dark, intelligent eyes and her mother’s sweet, dimpled smile.

Dominic held the baby with extraordinary gentleness, his massive, calloused hand supporting her tiny back as he rocked her slowly, making silly facial expressions that caused the baby to let out delighted, tiny squeals.

Barnaby lay stretched out on the Persian rug beside his chair, sleeping peacefully in the sunlight.

The heavy walnut doors opened quietly.

Mara walked into the room, wearing a soft lavender dress that accentuated her gorgeous, full curves. Her dark hair fell in soft ringlets around her shoulders, her skin glowing with radiant, radiant health and happiness.

She walked over to the desk, carrying a tray with two fresh cups of black coffee.

“Are you corrupting our daughter already, Don Castellano?” Mara teased warmly, setting the tray down on the marble coaster.

Dominic looked up, his dark eyes melting with pure, unadulterated love as he looked at his wife.

“I am teaching her how to manage the family business,” Dominic smiled, lifting little Julia up to show Mara. “She has already rejected three financial reports.”

Mara laughed—a rich, beautiful sound that filled the room—and leaned down, kissing Dominic’s lips before pressing a soft kiss to her daughter’s forehead.

Dominic reached up with his free arm, wrapping it securely around Mara’s waist, pulling her close against his side as he looked around his sunlit office.

He looked at his beautiful, thriving wife, his healthy baby girl, his loyal dog, and the absolute peace that filled his home.

The nine-year silence was gone forever, replaced by a symphony of love, warmth, and laughter that would echo through the halls of the Castellano estate for generations to come.

Dominic leaned back in his chair, taking a slow sip of sixty-five-degree Ethiopian coffee, and smiled—a man who had finally found his way home.
