Chapter 7 - THE DAWN OF RETRIBUTION

At 6:00 AM, a thick gray fog rolled off the Atlantic Ocean, blanketing the grounds of the Falcone estate in a ghostly haze.
In the subterranean safe vault beneath the wine cellar, Rebecca sat on a leather sofa, holding Clementine in her lap.
The vault was clean, brightly lit, and stocked with fresh food, medical supplies, and comfortable beds. Dominic stood guard outside the ten-inch steel door, holding a tactical rifle.
The heavy steel door slid open quietly, and Adriano walked inside.
He was wearing a dark tactical vest over a black shirt, a leather holster strapped across his shoulder. He looked imposing, dangerous, and ready for war—yet when his eyes landed on Rebecca, his expression softened instantly.
He walked over and knelt in front of her.
“Are you comfortable here?” Adriano asked softly.
“We’re fine,” Rebecca said, her eyes searching his face, taking in the tactical gear. “Is... is something dangerous happening outside?”
“Just business, Rebecca,” Adriano reassured her, reaching out to gently squeeze Clementine’s small hand. “Some men who forgot who rules this city are coming to ask for forgiveness.”
Rebecca reached out, her fingers lightly brushing against the heavy leather strap of his holster.
“Adriano...” she whispered, using his first name for the first time. “Please be careful. Thomas gave his life so you could live. Don't throw it away.”
Adriano looked into her eyes, feeling a strange, powerful surge of emotion in his chest that he hadn't felt in fifteen years.
“Thomas gave me a second life, Rebecca,” Adriano said softly, his voice full of deep, protective devotion. “I intend to use it to protect his family. No harm will come to you or Clementine while I draw breath.”
He stood up, looking at Dominic.
“Seal the vault door,” Adriano ordered. “Do not open it until I personally return.”
“Understood, boss,” Dominic nodded.
The heavy steel vault door slid shut with a deep, resonant thud, locking Rebecca and Clementine inside a soundproof, impenetrable fortress.
Outside, on the long asphalt drive leading up to the mansion, four black SUVs smashed through the wrought-iron front gates of the estate, their tires screaming on the wet gravel.
Heavy armed men in tactical gear poured out of the vehicles, led by Senator Arthur Vance himself—a tall, grey-haired man in a fine wool coat, holding a heavy silenced pistol.
“Clear the foyer!” Senator Vance barked to his men. “Find Genevieve! And bring me Adriano Falcone’s head!”
The heavily armed men rushed up the front stone steps, kicking open the massive mahogany front doors.
They burst into the grand marble foyer.
It was pitch black.
Silence hung heavy in the vast, high-ceilinged room.
Suddenly, floodlights snapped on from the second-floor balconies, blinding the invaders with tens of thousands of lumens of harsh, white light!
“WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED, VANCE!” Adriano’s baritone voice boomed from the upper gallery like judgment from above.

From every balcony, door, and alcove, thirty of Adriano’s heavily armed security operatives appeared, their laser sights painting bright red dots across the chests of Senator Vance and his twelve mercenaries.
Senator Vance froze, his eyes squinting against the blinding floodlights, his heart dropping into his stomach as he realized he had walked straight into an iron trap.
