Chapter 6 - The Fall of Moretti

The heavy glass decanter shattered with a loud CRACK, exploding into a shower of sparkling water and crystal shards.
The mercenary gasped, his eyes rolling back in his head as he collapsed onto the marble floor, unconscious.
The second mercenary froze in absolute shock, his hand instantly reaching for the firearm inside his jacket. “What the hell—!”
Alessia didn't hesitate. Hardship had made her fast, and fearlessness made her dangerous. She grabbed the heavy silk train of her gown, wrapped it around the second mercenary’s knee, and yanked with all her strength, throwing him off balance. As he stumbled, she drove her sharp stiletto heel down onto his foot, crushing his toes.
The man howled in pain, dropping the signal jammer device onto the floor.
Luca appeared out of nowhere like a phantom. He grabbed the second mercenary by the throat, shoved him violently against the marble pillar, and delivered a swift, brutal strike to his temple, rendering him instantly silent. Luca quickly scooped up the signal jammer and disarmed the device.
The entire incident had taken less than ten seconds, executed so smoothly in the shadowed alcove near the exit that the dancing guests forty feet away noticed nothing.
Across the room, Salvatore Moretti stood up abruptly from his velvet booth, realizing his secondary trap had failed. He reached for his pocket, but before his fingers could touch his weapon, Enzo stepped into his space.
Enzo’s movement was blindingly fast. He grabbed Salvatore’s wrist, twisting it back with a sickening mechanical pop. Salvatore let out a strangled gasp, dropping his gun onto the soft velvet cushion.
Enzo leaned down, his face inches from the older Don’s ear, his tone conversational and pleasant.
“You brought amateurs to a high-society party, Salvatore,” Enzo whispered, his gray eyes gleaming with absolute malice. “Your mercenary contracts are terminated. Your accounts at Von Sachs Bank were seized five minutes ago by my cyber division. And your territory in Navigli now belongs to the Vieri family.”
Salvatore stared at Enzo, his face pale with pain and defeat. “You... you can’t kill me here, Enzo. The press... the politicians...”
“I don't need to kill you, Salvatore,” Enzo smiled coldly. “The Carabinieri are waiting outside the VIP exit. They received an anonymous tip twenty minutes ago containing the complete financial ledgers of your narcotics operations in Genoa. You will spend the rest of your miserable life in a maximum-security cell.”
Enzo released the ruined wrist and stepped back, adjusting his velvet cuffs.
Two undercover police officers in plain clothes stepped out from behind the velvet curtains, quietly clapping steel handcuffs onto Salvatore Moretti and leading him away through the private exit without drawing the attention of the ballroom guests.
Enzo turned around, his eyes sweeping the ballroom until he found Alessia.
She was standing near the alcove, her emerald gown slightly damp from the water, her breathing heavy, but her head held high. Beside her lay two unconscious mercenaries.
Enzo walked across the ballroom floor toward her. The violin music reached a soaring crescendo, and the golden lights of the chandeliers reflected in his eyes.
He stopped before her, looking down at the broken glass, the unconscious men, and then up into her beautiful, fierce face.
“Did you just take down two armed mercenaries with a water decanter and a stiletto heel?” Enzo asked, a look of pure, unadulterated awe illuminating his face.
Alessia wiped a stray strand of dark hair from her face, letting out a soft, breathless laugh. “I told you, Enzo. I clean up trash.”
Enzo burst into laughter—a sound so rich, warm, and genuine that several passing aristocrats stopped to stare.
Without warning, Enzo reached out, grabbed her around the waist, and pulled her flush against his chest. In front of the entire elite of Milan—in front of the press, the politicians, the rivals, and the gossips—Don Enzo Vieri dipped his head and kissed her.
It was not a subtle kiss. It was deep, passionate, and possessive—a public declaration that shattered every rumor and redefined the power structure of the city in a single second.
Alessia’s heart exploded in her chest. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her fingers tangling in his dark hair, kissing him back with all the fierce, unyielding passion that had brought them together inside a broken elevator.
When they finally broke apart, breathless, the entire ballroom had gone completely silent.
Enzo looked into her dark eyes, his hand resting gently against her cheek, his thumb brushing over her warm skin.
“You are extraordinary, Alessia,” Enzo whispered, his voice trembling with genuine emotion. “I spent my whole life searching for power, thinking it would make me invincible. But you... you are the only thing in this world that makes me feel alive.”
May you like
Alessia smiled, her hand resting over his heart, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm beating beneath his velvet suit.
“Then let’s go home, Don Vieri,” she whispered back. “We have a new life to build.”
