Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Light

Six months later, spring had arrived in Barrington Hills.

The snow had melted away, replaced by rolling green lawns, blooming cherry blossoms, and the bright, warm sunshine of May.

The patio behind Vale Manor was set with long tables covered in fresh yellow flowers. Fifty guests—executives from Vale Dynamics, local community leaders, and genuine friends—gathered under the clear sky for the annual spring charity reception.

Claire stood near the stone balustrade, wearing a stunning yellow silk dress that accentuated her warm complexion and healthy figure. She looked radiant, powerful, and utterly at ease.

Beside her stood Adrian, dressed in a sharp navy suit, his hand resting comfortably at the small of her back.

Down on the grass, little Ethan was running with two other children, laughing loudly as he chased a golden retriever across the lawn. His voice was bright, frequent, and full of joy.

A sleek black sedan pulled up the driveway, dropping off Mr. Hale, Adrian's chief legal strategist.

Mr. Hale walked up to the terrace, offering a polite bow to Claire.

"Mrs. Vale," Mr. Hale smiled, handing her a small folder. "The final judicial proceedings regarding your former husband, Grant Mercer, have concluded."

Claire opened the folder.

After the publicity surrounding Vanessa’s arrest and the subsequent investigation into Mercer Logistics' fraudulent sub-contracts, Grant Mercer’s firm had gone into involuntary bankruptcy. His assets had been liquidized to pay off back taxes and court-ordered restitution.

"He attempted to reach out to your office again yesterday, ma'am," Mr. Hale added. "Requesting a meeting regarding a prospective employment opportunity in our secondary logistics branch."

Claire looked at the document, then closed the folder.

"Inform Mr. Mercer that Vale Dynamics does not hire individuals with a history of fraudulent accounting," Claire said calmly. "And tell him his application is officially rejected."

"Understood, Mrs. Vale," Mr. Hale smiled, turning to join the guests on the lawn.

Adrian leaned down, his lips brushing softly against Claire’s ear. "Satisfied?"

Claire turned her head, looking up into her husband's gray eyes, which were filled with boundless warmth and love.

"Very," she smiled.

Adrian wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest as the afternoon sun bathed the terrace in golden light.

From the grass below, Ethan looked up, seeing them standing together on the terrace.

"Mom! Dad! Look!" Ethan shouted happily, holding up a bright yellow dandelion he had picked from the grass.

May you like

Claire waved to her son, her heart overflowing with an enduring, unbreakable joy.

The darkness of her past was gone, burned away by the light of a love that had built a fortress around her heart—a fortress where she would reign as queen forever.
