Chapter 9 - The Legacy

That evening, as the stars began to appear in the deep violet Mediterranean sky, Dominic and Naomi stood on the stone balcony overlooking the valley below.
A gentle breeze rustled through the olive trees, carrying the cool scent of night blooming jasmine.
Dominic stood behind her, his broad arms wrapped around her waist, holding her close against his warm chest. Naomi leaned back into his embrace, watching the fireflies dance above the dark grass.
“I used to think that power was about how many men answered your call,” Dominic murmured into her hair, his hands resting gently over her stomach. “How many streets you owned. How much fear you could generate in a room.”
Naomi turned her head slightly to look at his profile in the moonlight. “And now?”
Dominic turned her around in his arms, looking down into her face with an intensity that burned brighter than any diamond he had ever bought her.
“Now I know that true power is having the courage to protect the things that matter,” Dominic said softly. “And the wisdom to know when to let the rest of it burn.”
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box he had carried with him from New York.
He opened it slowly.
Inside lay her simple platinum wedding band—not the massive eight-carat Antwerp diamond, but the quiet, sacred band that represented their vows.
He took her left hand, sliding the ring back onto her finger where it belonged.
Naomi looked down at the ring, tears of profound, quiet happiness welling up in her eyes. She looked up at her husband—the man who had walked through fire, blood, and his own dark pride to find her in the dark.

“Welcome home, Dominic,” she whispered.
Dominic leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a kiss that held no fear, no secrets, and no distance.
