Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Legacy

One year later.

The afternoon sun washed over the sprawling, emerald-green lawn of the Ellison estate in Westchester. The very estate that Grant Vascari had once owned had been completely bought out, gutted, and redecorated into a warm, light-filled family sanctuary.

White linen curtains fluttered in the warm spring breeze. The long mahogany dining table where Mara had once sat alone in the dark had been replaced by a beautiful, broad round oak table surrounded by light plush chairs.

Today, the garden was alive with music, laughter, and light.

Over fifty guests gathered on the lawn to celebrate little Lily's first birthday. Children played near the white bouncy castle, labor union leaders chatted happily with commercial real estate developers near the catering tables, and classical musicians played soft, joyful melodies near the rose gardens.

Mara walked across the lush grass wearing a light floral summer dress, holding eighteen-month-old Lily in her arms. Lily was laughing joyfully, pointing her tiny fingers at the colorful balloons floating near the gazebo.

Walking beside Mara was Marcus Vance, who had traded his heavy tactical suit for a relaxed blazer, keeping a watchful, affectionate eye on the little girl he considered family.

"Look at her, Miss Mara," Marcus smiled softly. "She's got her grandfather's stubborn spirit."

"And her mother's financial mind," Mara laughed lightly, kissing Lily's chubby cheek.

Near the central oak tree, Warren Ellison sat in a comfortable garden chair, surrounded by Frankie Torrio and old friends, sipping vintage wine, his face radiating deep, unshakeable contentment.

When he saw Mara and Lily walking toward him, Warren immediately set his glass down, standing up with open arms.

"Come here, my little sunbird!" Warren cheered, lifting Lily up into the air as the toddler giggled happily.

Mara leaned against her father's shoulder, looking out over the vibrant, joyful gathering of family, friends, and loyal allies who surrounded them.

She remembered the night her heart had been broken—the cold candles, the untouched dinner, the husband who believed she was weak, helpless, and easily discarded.

Grant Vascari had believed that power was built on dominance, fear, and throwing away the people who supported you when a shinier option appeared. He had forgotten that a true empire is not built on glass walls and stolen loyalty; it is built on blood, honor, and unyielding family devotion.

"What are you thinking about, sweetheart?" Warren asked softly, holding Lily securely against his chest, looking down at his daughter.

Mara looked up at the warm afternoon sky, feeling the deep, indestructible strength of her family legacy flowing through her heart.

"I was just thinking, Dad," Mara smiled, her eyes clear, bright, and filled with infinite hope for the future. "That the house is finally warm."

Warren wrapped his arm securely around Mara's shoulders, bringing his daughter and granddaughter close to his heart.

Together, bathed in the brilliant golden light of the afternoon sun, the Ellison family stood sovereign, untouchable, and forever whole.
