Chapter 10 - The Dawn of the Queen

Six months later.
The Chicago summer sun rose brightly over the lush, manicured green lawns of the Rossi estate, painting the stone mansion in warm, golden light.
The iron front gates swept open, allowing a fleet of black luxury sedans to pull up the grand circular driveway. Stepping out of the vehicles were the highest-ranking syndicate leaders, legal directors, and political representatives from across the Midwest—men who held immense power over the city's commerce and infrastructure.
They gathered in the grand dining room—the very room where six months earlier, a terrified housemaid had spilled a cup of black coffee across a mahogany table.
The room had been completely transformed. The dark, gloomy oil paintings had been replaced with bright, modern European art; the heavy mahogany table was set with pristine crystal glasses and silver platters of fresh fruit and pastries.
Sitting at the head of the table, wearing a tailored navy suit with his sleeves rolled down, was Gabriel Rossi.
Sitting directly to his right—occupying a high-backed leather chair identical to his own—was Norah Hayes.
Her left arm was completely healed, the fiberglass splint long gone, leaving only a tiny, faint white scar near her wrist as a reminder of the past. She wore an exquisite, custom-tailored emerald green dress, her dark hair styled in soft waves over her shoulders. Resting on her delicate finger was a stunning, platinum-set solitaire diamond ring that caught the morning sunlight.
She was no longer the invisible housemaid moving like a ghost through the shadows. She was the executive director of Rossi Global Enterprises—and the official fiancé of Gabriel Rossi.
When the syndicate leaders entered the room, they did not look past her. They bowed their heads with deep, genuine reverence.
“Good morning, Mr. Rossi. Good morning, Miss Hayes,” the senior captain stated respectfully, taking his seat at the long table.
Norah offered them a calm, confident, and graceful smile—the smile of a woman who had faced the worst horrors of the streets, survived the storm, and claimed her rightful place beside the king of the city.
Gabriel looked over at her, his gray eyes shining with infinite pride and deep, unwavering love. Underneath the table, out of sight of the powerful men surrounding them, his large, warm hand reached over and linked his fingers tightly with hers.
Norah squeezed his hand back firmly.

She looked out the high arched windows at the beautiful, sunlit grounds of the estate.
The pain was gone. The fear was banished. The ghost had found her home—and she would reign over it for the rest of her days.
