Chapter 9 - The Unspoken Vow

Gabriel returned to the Rossi estate at 1:30 a.m.

The storm had passed, leaving the massive grounds blanketed in a layer of pristine, quiet snow that glittered under the bright moon.

He stepped through the heavy oak doors of the main entrance, pulling off his damp wool coat and handing his leather shoulder holsters to Vincent. He walked softly up the grand marble staircase, his heart pulling him toward the third floor.

He reached the executive study.

The lights inside were turned down low, illuminated only by the warm, orange glow of the roaring stone fireplace.

Curled up asleep on the leather sofa near the fire, wrapped in a plush wool blanket, was Norah. She had tried to stay awake waiting for him, a stack of legal documents still resting on her lap, her splinted left arm tucked comfortably against her chest.

Gabriel stopped in the doorway, staring at her in the soft firelight.

For fifteen years, returning to this mansion after a brutal confrontation meant returning to a cold, empty fortress filled with armed guards, financial ledgers, and constant suspicion. It meant sitting alone in the dark with a glass of whiskey, waiting for the next threat to emerge from the shadows.

Now, for the first time in his life, returning home meant coming back to light, warmth, and peace.

He walked quietly across the Persian rug, stopping beside the sofa. He knelt down on one knee, looking down at her peaceful, sleeping face. Her dark hair was spread across the leather cushion, her skin smooth and glowing in the firelight.

Gabriel reached out, his calloused fingers hovering inches from her face before gently brushing a soft lock of hair away from her forehead.

Norah stirred softly, her long dark eyelashes fluttering open.

She blinked against the warm light, seeing Gabriel kneeling beside her.

A soft, breathtaking smile instantly illuminated her face. “You came back,” she whispered, her voice husky from sleep.

“I promised you I would, Norah,” Gabriel said softly, his gray eyes shining with an intensity that made her breath catch in her throat.

Norah sat up slowly, letting the wool blanket drop to her waist. She looked at his face, checking his shoulders, his hands, relieved to see no blood or injuries upon him.

“Are you alright?” she asked gently.

“I am fine,” Gabriel replied softly. He did not pull his hand away from her cheek. His thumb stroked her cheekbone with unbelievable tenderness. “The Moretti situation has been resolved permanently. The Boston docks belong to us now.”

Norah looked into his steel-gray eyes, seeing past the formidable, terrifying mafia boss, past the brutal reputation, and touching the soul of the man who had pulled her out of the dark alley and given her a safe place in the world.

Without thinking, guided by an instinct deeper than fear, Norah leaned forward. She reached out with her right hand, placing her palm against the back of his warm, thick neck, and gently pulled him down toward her.

Gabriel did not hesitate.

He leaned in, closing his eyes, his soft lips meeting hers in a quiet, incredibly deep, and intoxicating kiss that echoed through the silent study.

It was not a kiss of violence or power. It was a kiss of absolute, unspoken devotion—a vow forged in blood, protection, and unconditional trust.

When they finally separated, their foreheads rested against each other in the warm firelight, their breathing synchronized in the quiet room.

“I am never letting you go, Norah,” Gabriel whispered against her lips, his voice raw with deep emotion. “You walk under my name now. My protection. My life.”

May you like

Norah smiled softly, closing her eyes as she wrapped her arms tightly around his broad shoulders.

“I'm not going anywhere, Gabriel,” she whispered back. “I'm right where I belong.”
