Chapter 6 - The Pier 42 Raid

The midnight air over the river was freezing, heavy with the smell of diesel smoke, salt water, and rust.
Pier 42 was a sprawling, dark industrial complex surrounded by chain-link fences topped with razor wire. Spotlights swept across the gravel parking lots, where six heavily armed Valenti sentries walked their patrols with automatic rifles.
I crouched inside a black tactical SUV parked two blocks away in the shadow of an abandoned warehouse, surrounded by Marco and eight of my elite tactical men.
In the back seat sat Bruno, wearing a heavy tactical Kevlar harness fitted with a silent radio comms link and a small night-vision camera.
“All teams in position, Boss,” Marco reported through his headset, checking his weapon. “Valenti’s private convoy just arrived at the main office building inside the pier. Dominic Valenti is personally inspecting the crate shipments.”
“Good,” I said, turning to look at Bruno in the back seat.
The dog sat perfectly still, his ears erect, his eyes bright in the dark interior of the vehicle. He knew we were on a mission. The nervous energy of the beast was gone, replaced by a terrifying, cold discipline.
I reached back, gently patting his broad head. “Good boy, Bruno. Bring us the snake.”
I unlatched the rear door of the SUV.
Bruno slipped out into the darkness like a black shadow, moving silently through the tall grass along the perimeter fence.
Through the live camera feed on my wrist tablet, we watched as Bruno breached the perimeter through an open drainage culvert beneath the fence, entering the heart of Pier 42 without triggering a single motion sensor.
Within three minutes, the tablet feed showed Bruno navigating the dark interior of Shipping Hangar B.
Two Valenti guards were standing near the main power generator, talking in low voices while smoking cigarettes.
Bruno didn't bark. He didn't growl.
He moved behind a stack of wooden crates, his black coat rendering him completely invisible in the shadows. He lunged forward silently, taking down the first guard by his tactical vest before the man could even scream, slamming him into the concrete floor and knocking him unconscious.
The second guard turned in sheer panic, reaching for his alarm button, but Bruno was already on him, clamping his jaws around the guard’s wrist, forcing him to drop his weapon before pinning him to the wall.

“Power grid neutralized,” I whispered into my comms. “Move in!”
My men poured out of the SUVs, breaching the outer gates silently while Valenti’s perimeter security remained completely oblivious.
