Chapter 10 - The Announcement

One month later.
The Grand Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Miami was filled with five hundred of Florida’s most prominent figures—tech executives, politicians, media moguls, and high-society philanthropists.
It was the annual Cole Dynamics Gala for Pediatric Health—a charity event that Ethan hosted every year in honor of Claire.
In previous years, Ethan had attended the event alone, sitting at the head table in a dark tuxedo, looking brooding, distant, and miserable while photographers snapped his picture for the morning society pages.
Tonight, the atmosphere was entirely different.
The double doors of the ballroom opened, and the master of ceremonies announced:
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our host, Chief Executive Officer Ethan Cole, accompanied by Miss Grace Miller."
A sudden wave of gasps and whisperings rippled through the massive crowd.
Ethan walked into the ballroom wearing a flawless black tuxedo. Beside him, walking hand-in-hand, was Grace.
She looked breathtaking. She wore an elegant, minimalist emerald-green silk gown designed by a top Italian couturier. Her dark hair was swept up in a soft, modern chignon, leaving her long neck bare save for a simple, stunning pendant necklace made of white gold and diamonds—a piece from Claire’s private collection that Ethan had personally placed around her neck before they left the house.
Grace didn't look nervous. She held her head high, a soft, genuine smile on her face, her eyes radiating a quiet, unshakeable confidence that captivated every camera lens in the room.
Vanessa Hart, sitting at a table near the side with her father, clutched her wine glass so tightly the glass nearly shattered. Her face was dark with humiliation and rage as she watched the woman she had slapped stepping onto the main stage beside one of the wealthiest men in the country.
Ethan led Grace to the podium. The room fell into an attentive, curious hush.
Ethan adjusted the microphone, looking out over the crowd of five hundred people before turning his head to look down at Grace.
"Good evening, everyone," Ethan began, his deep voice carrying clearly through the high-grade sound system. "Thank you for joining us tonight to support the Children's Memorial Health Foundation."
He paused, letting his gaze sweep across the ballroom before anchoring back onto Grace.
"As many of you know," Ethan continued, his voice softening, "this foundation was created four years ago to honor the memory of my late wife, Claire. Claire believed that the greatest responsibility a human being has is to protect and love children."
He took Grace’s hand, lifting it slightly so that the entire room could see their fingers intertwined.
On Grace’s ring finger sparkled a magnificent three-carat oval-cut diamond set in a simple, delicate platinum band—a ring Ethan had designed himself, engraved on the inside with the words: Our Ordinary Tuesday.
"For three years," Ethan said, looking directly into Grace’s shining brown eyes, "my son and I lived in a world that felt cold and incomplete. But then a remarkable woman walked into our lives. She didn't come to change us. She came to love us. She taught my son how to laugh again, and she taught me how to live again."
A soft, collective gasp went through the audience, followed by a sudden, reverent quiet.
"Tonight," Ethan announced, his voice proud, clear, and ringing with absolute triumph, "I am honored to introduce you to my fiancée, Grace Miller. She is the future Mrs. Cole, the mother of my son, and the co-chair of this foundation moving forward."
The ballroom erupted into thunderous applause.
Corporate leaders, philanthropists, and society figures stood up from their tables, clapping enthusiastically, completely captivated by the raw, genuine romance radiating from the stage.
Vanessa Hart stood up frantically from her seat and fled toward the exit doors, unable to bear another second of the applause, her father following behind her with a pale, defeated face.
On stage, Ethan turned to Grace, pulled her gently into his arms, and kissed her under the flashing lights of fifty news cameras.

Grace wrapped her arms around his neck, laughing against his lips as the applause rained down around them like warm summer rain.
The long night of grief was officially over.
