Chapter 6 - The New Owner

Jason turned around, his eyes wild, his fists clenched as he marched down the terrace steps toward the silver-haired stranger.
"Who the hell are you?" Jason shouted, pointing a finger at Henderson’s chest. "What are your men doing on my property? This is private land!"
Mr. Henderson stopped, adjusting his silver wire-rimmed glasses, looking at Jason with a calm, faintly amused expression. He looked at the disheveled man in the crumpled shirt, then at the two furious women standing near the empty terrace windows.
"I assume you are Mr. Vance?" Henderson asked, his voice smooth, cultured, and completely devoid of alarm.
"Yes, I'm Jason Vance!" Jason yelled, stepping directly into Henderson’s path. "And this is my house! Get these workmen off my driveway before I call the police and have you all arrested for trespassing!"
Henderson didn't move an inch. He simply reached into his leather document folder, pulled out a laminated white sheet, and handed it toward Jason.
"You're mistaken, Mr. Vance," Henderson said quietly. "This is not your house. It hasn't been your house since twelve o'clock noon on Friday."
Jason stared at the paper. It was a copy of the official recording receipt from the County Registrar of Deeds, stamped with a golden digital seal.
Grantor: Thorne Legacy Holdings LLC. Grantee: Henderson Family Revocable Trust. Parcel ID: 402-88-101.
"What... what is this fake garbage?" Jason stammered, his fingers tearing the corner of the paper slightly as he tried to read the tiny legal print. "Thorne Legacy Holdings is my family's asset! My wife doesn't have the legal authority to sell our home!"
Henderson let out a soft, dry chuckle. "Your wife was the sole Managing Trustee of Thorne Legacy Holdings, Mr. Vance. My legal team spent three days reviewing the corporate charter before we executed the wire. You held no shares in the LLC. You held no position on the board. You were not listed as a beneficiary."
"That’s impossible!" Evelyn screamed, running down the steps, her scowling face inches from Henderson’s. "My son is her husband! Marriage means shared property! They built this house together!"
Henderson turned his cool gaze onto Evelyn. "Under state law, Mrs. Vance, real property acquired by a sole-member entity prior to marriage, maintained without marital debt, and held strictly in trust, remains separate non-marital property. Furthermore, your daughter-in-law explicitly declined to file a marital homestead declaration."
He pointed toward the front entrance, where the two workmen were already using a cordless drill to remove the old keypad from the mahogany door frame.
"I purchased this property for three point two million dollars, cash," Henderson continued, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp tone. "The title has transferred. The wire cleared four days ago. I own this stone, I own this land, and as of five minutes ago, my contractors are re-keying the entire facility."
"Where is Emily?" Jason roared, his hands shaking so violently he dropped his car keys onto the gravel. "Where did she go with my daughter?"
Henderson looked at Jason with profound, unfiltered pity. "Ms. Thorne left a small package with my attorney, to be handed to you in the event you showed up on the premises after my arrival."
Henderson reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out a thick, legal-sized white envelope, and offered it to Jason.
May you like
"What is this?" Jason whispered, staring at the envelope like it contained a venomous snake.
"That," Henderson said, gesturing to his contractors to begin unloading their equipment, "is your formal notice of eviction for any personal effects remaining in the garage, along with a copy of a temporary restraining order issued by the Circuit Court of Family Law this morning."
