Chapter 9 - The Fall of Morozov

By noon the following day, the interrogation of The Specter yielded the final piece of the puzzle: Nikolai Morozov was hiding at an abandoned industrial complex near the eastern state border, preparing to flee the country.
Gideon did not send a small squad this time.
He mobilized the entire strength of the Wolf Syndicate.
Thirty black SUVs rolled down the highway toward the eastern border, forming a formidable convoy of iron and authority.
Inside the lead vehicle sat Gideon, wearing a sharp dark coat, and Norah, equipped with a mobile tactical terminal connected to the city’s traffic surveillance grid.
“He has twelve men inside the main warehouse,” Norah reported, tracking signal heatmaps on her screen. “They’ve set up two automated defense turrets near the front gates.”
“Can you disable them?” Gideon asked, leaning over her shoulder.
“I already breached their local Wi-Fi network,” Norah smiled faintly, tapping a single command key. “The turrets just shut down.”
Gideon chuckled softly, kissing her cheek. “I am never letting you leave my side.”
When the convoy arrived at the industrial complex, there was no long standoff.
Gideon’s forces breached the perimeter fence, sweeping through the warehouse with absolute dominance. Within fifteen minutes, Morozov’s men were disarmed and pinned to the concrete floor.
Gideon and Norah walked into the central office of the complex.
Sitting in a chair surrounded by armed guards was Nikolai Morozov, his face pale, his hands cuffed behind his back.
Beside him sat Marcus Vance, weeping hysterically.
“Gideon... please!” Vance sobbed, crawling on his knees toward them. “Morozov forced me! He threatened my family!”
Gideon didn't even look at Vance. He made a quiet gesture to Arthur, who dragged the screaming traitor out of the room.
Gideon stood before Morozov, his hazel eyes cold as ice.
“You came into my city, Nikolai,” Gideon said softly. “You used poison. You sent hit squads to my home.”
Morozov looked at Gideon, then turned his gaze toward Norah.
“So this is the maid,” Morozov rasped, spitting blood onto the floor. “The girl who destroyed my three-year plan with a glass of juice.”
Norah stepped forward, standing beside Gideon, looking down at the fallen syndicate boss with calm, unshakeable dignity.
“It wasn't just a glass of juice, Mr. Morozov,” Norah said quietly. “It was your arrogance. You thought because I wore an apron, I couldn't see what you were doing. People like you always forget to watch the floor.”
Gideon smiled—a proud, terrifying smile.
He looked at his chief of security. “Hand them over to the federal authorities in Chicago. Let Morozov spend the rest of his life in a supermax facility.”

As Morozov was dragged away, the industrial complex fell quiet.
The threat that had hung over Graybridge for months was officially extinguished.
