Chapter 7 - THE LAKE HOUSE VAULT

Before they could confront Victoria at the private clinic, they needed the ultimate evidence—the physical master drive locked inside the vault at the Saratoga lake house.
By 3:00 AM, Julian's black sedan was speeding north along the rain-slicked highway toward upstate New York.
The Saratoga estate was a magnificent timber-and-stone mansion resting on the edge of a frozen lake, surrounded by towering pine trees. Unlike the city mansion, this property was quiet, guarded by only four private caretakers who had been loyal to Marcus for thirty years.
Julian used his private security code to enter through the basement garage.
They walked down a stone staircase into a subterranean cellar built into the bedrock beneath the house. At the end of the corridor stood a massive steel vault door equipped with a dual-key system and a digital retina scanner.
"My father and I were the only two people registered on this scanner," Julian explained, stepping up to the glass lens.
A red laser beam scanned Julian's right eye.
A mechanical chime sounded: ACCESS GRANTED — USER: JULIAN RUSSO.
The heavy steel vault door hissed open, revealing a room filled with safe deposit boxes, historical family ledgers, and a central glass desk holding a silver server terminal.
Julian quickly sat at the server terminal, inserting the flash drive Elena had recovered.
The screen lit up with green text, displaying hundreds of encrypted video logs recorded inside the Russo mansion over the past six months.
"Look at this entry from three weeks ago," Julian said, opening a file dated August 14th.
The video showed Marcus Russo's private study.
Marcus was sitting at his desk, speaking with a tall, silver-haired man wearing a tailored grey suit.
Elena leaned over Julian's shoulder. "Who is that?"
"Don Lorenzo Moretti," Julian said, his breath hitching in his throat. "The head of the rival syndicate."
On the video recording, Marcus was speaking calmly: "Victoria thinks she is clever, Lorenzo. She thinks she has been transferring my money into your Swiss accounts without my knowledge."
Don Moretti chuckled on the recording: "She is an ambitious woman, Marcus. She paid my men five million dollars to arrange the safe passage of your logistics assets."
Marcus smiled coldly on the video: "Let her continue. The moment she transfers the final eighty million, I will activate the federal asset forfeiture clause. The government will seize every Moretti account in North America, and Victoria will take the fall for thirty years of racketeering."
Elena gasped. "Your father was using his own wife as bait to destroy the Moretti family!"
"He was going to sacrifice her to the federal government," Julian said, a look of grim realization on his face. "That's why Victoria moved to kill him! She found out he was setting her up!"
Suddenly, the security alarm above the vault door began to flash orange.
PERIMETER BREACH — OUTSIDE DRIVEWAY.
On the vault security monitors, four black tactical vans were pulling up across the snow-covered lawn of the estate.
Dozens of armed men in white winter camouflage stepped out, carrying silenced assault rifles.
"Victor's men?" Elena asked, reaching for her pistol.
May you like
"No," Julian said, pointing to the monitors. "Look at the patch on their sleeves. That's the crest of the Moretti family."
Don Lorenzo Moretti had come to burn the lake house to the ground.
