Chapter 7 - THE TRUTH IN THE VAULT

Thirty minutes later, the three of them were inside the private study of Adrian's penthouse.

Marcus stood guard at the door, while Elena sat holding Isabelle's hands, comforting the weeping girl as she explained Falcone's blackmail scheme in full detail.

Adrian stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the rain-slicked city streets.

"She didn't betray you, Adrian," Julian said, stepping up beside him. "Falcone used her brother as leverage. She was trying to save her family."

"I know," Adrian said quietly, without turning around.

"You aren't angry at her?" Julian asked.

Adrian slowly turned to face Julian. "I'm angry at Falcone. And I'm angry that I spent the last three years trying to build a life with a woman I didn't truly love, simply because it was expected of me."

Julian went quiet, looking at Adrian's unreadable expression.

"Isabelle is safe now," Adrian continued, walking over to his desk and picking up a silver key. "Marcus is escorting her and her brother to a safehouse in Maine tonight. The engagement is officially off."

"And our deal?" Julian asked softly.

Adrian walked over to Julian, stopping inches away. He held out the silver key.

"This opens the private vault beneath Don Falcone's mansion on 5th Avenue," Adrian explained softly. "Inside drawer 402 is the original ledger from twelve years ago. It contains the names of the men who set the fire that killed your brother."

Julian looked at the key, his fingers trembling slightly as he took it. "Why are you giving this to me now?"

"Because your father didn't just save my father's life, Julian," Adrian confessed, his voice dropping into a tender, vulnerable whisper. "Your brother died trying to pull me out of that burning warehouse."

Julian froze, staring at Adrian in complete shock.

"I was fourteen," Adrian whispered, tears glistening in his dark eyes for the first time. "I was trapped under a steel beam. Your brother, Thomas, got me out... but the roof collapsed before he could follow. I've carried that guilt every single day of my life."

Julian's throat tightened. The anger and bitterness he had carried toward the Moretti name for twelve long years suddenly dissolved into a profound, shared grief.

"Adrian..." Julian whispered softly, reaching out and placing his hand gently on Adrian's cheek.

Adrian closed his eyes, leaning into Julian's touch, finding a sense of peace he hadn't felt in a decade.

"We finish Falcone together tonight," Julian said firmly. "For Thomas. For our families."
