Chapter 6 - The Arrival of the King

The storm outside seemed to answer the roar of the three black military helicopters hovering directly above the mansion's courtyard.

Dante didn't flinch. He drew a sleek black custom pistol from his shoulder holster, checking the chamber with cold, practiced precision before slipping it back into his jacket.

“Stay behind me,” Dante ordered Evelyn, his voice leaving no room for argument.

“Why?” Evelyn asked, her heart racing as she followed him down the grand marble staircase toward the main entrance hall. “If that man out there is my father, he’s coming to rescue me from you!”

Dante stopped at the foot of the stairs, turning to face her. His dark eyes held a strange, fiery intensity that made her chest tighten. “Marcus Vance hasn't seen you since you were an infant, Evelyn. He doesn't know who you are as a person. To him, you are a political asset—a crown to solidify his empire. You think I’m a monster? You have no idea what real monsters look like.”

Before she could process his words, the massive reinforced front doors of the mansion exploded inward in a shower of splintered wood and twisted steel.

Smoke grenade canisters bounced across the marble floor, releasing thick clouds of grey gas.

Dante’s guards raised their weapons, but before a single shot could be fired, thirty heavily armored soldiers dressed in pristine tactical gear poured through the breach. Their movements were terrifyingly synchronized, disarming Dante’s perimeter guards within seconds with brutal, military efficiency.

Through the clearing smoke walked an older man.

He was in his late fifties, tall, with silver hair meticulously combed back, wearing a tailored black cashmere coat over a three-piece suit. He carried an antique silver-headed cane in his right hand. His face was handsome, cold, and possessed an aura of ancient, absolute royalty that made even the air around him feel thin.

Marcus Vance. The King of Europe.

Behind him stepped two towering bodyguards carrying heavy automatic rifles.

Marcus’s icy blue eyes swept across the grand foyer, completely ignoring the armed men around him, until they landed on Evelyn.

He stopped. A faint, elegant smile touched his lips.

“Look at you,” Marcus said, his voice deep, cultured, and smooth as velvet. “You have your mother’s green eyes, my child.”

Evelyn felt frozen in place. This man—this stranger carrying an army—was her biological father.

Dante stepped directly into Marcus’s line of sight, blocking Evelyn completely. He stood tall, his posture relaxed despite being surrounded by thirty hostile barrels.

“You’re trespassing on Bellamy land, Vance,” Dante said coldly.

Marcus Vance chuckled softly, resting both hands on his silver cane. “Dante Bellamy. Young, arrogant, and foolish—just like your father was before he died. You bought my daughter at a trashy Upper East Side auction like a common prize.”

“I bought her because your rat of a brother lied to me,” Dante replied, his voice deadly steady.

“Julian did what he was ordered to do,” Marcus said dismissively. “He kept my crown safe in the gutter until the time was right. And now, the time has come.”

Marcus raised his hand, gesturing to his soldiers. “Kill Dante Bellamy and his enforcers. Bring my daughter to the helicopter.”

“Wait!” Evelyn screamed, stepping out from behind Dante’s broad shoulders.

Marcus paused, looking at her with mild surprise. “Evelyn, step away from him, darling. We are going home to Geneva.”

Evelyn looked at the silver-haired king who claimed to be her father, then looked at Dante—the man who had held her captive, but who was currently using his own body as a shield to protect her from thirty guns.

“I’m not going anywhere with you,” Evelyn declared, her voice ringing clear through the ruined foyer.

Marcus’s smile vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, deadly stillness. “What did you say?”

“You abandoned me in Queens for twenty-four years,” Evelyn said, her hands tightening into fists. “You let my mother die in poverty while you sat in your palace in Geneva! You don't get to show up with an army and pretend you're my father!”

Marcus Vance stared at her for a long, terrifying moment. The cultured warmth in his eyes completely died, revealing the true, pitiless predator beneath.

May you like

“How disappointing,” Marcus whispered softly. “It seems raised in the gutter, you developed gutter sentimentality.”

He turned to his chief captain. “Level the house. Leave no survivors.”
