Chapter 9 - The Siege of the Sovereign

The black sea was calm under the moonless sky as three high-speed stealth interceptor craft cut through the dark waters toward the massive silhouette of the Sovereign.

Evelyn sat beside Dante in the lead boat, wearing black tactical gear over her clothes, a dark bulletproof vest strapped tightly around her chest.

Dante reached over, checking the straps of her vest, his hands careful and precise. “Once we board the vessel, you stay in the secondary tactical team with Marcus. I am going straight to the bridge for Vance.”

“Be careful, Dante,” Evelyn said, reaching up to touch his cheek. “He’s desperate. A desperate king is the most dangerous kind.”

Dante leaned into her hand, kissing her palm softly. “He bought a war he can't afford, Evelyn. I’m just delivering the bill.”

At two o'clock in the morning, the Bellamy strike team launched grappling lines onto the rear deck of the superyacht.

Silently, thirty elite enforcers climbed the sides of the ship, taking out the deck guards with suppressed weapons before the alarm could even be raised.

Evelyn boarded the vessel seamlessly, moving through the luxurious carpeted hallways of the yacht alongside Marcus’s tactical team. Her knowledge of her father’s internal filing structures allowed them to bypass the ship’s electronic lockdown codes, shutting down the primary engine systems from the secondary control terminal on Deck Three.

The ship plunged into absolute darkness as the main generators failed.

Red emergency backup lights flickered on, painting the opulent halls in blood-red hues.

Shots rang out from the upper deck as Dante’s strike team breached the primary bridge.

Evelyn rushed up the grand spiral staircase, her heart hammering in her chest as she heard the sound of breaking glass and shouting from the master stateroom at the top of the ship.

She burst through the double brass doors of the stateroom, holding a small pistol Dante had trained her to use during their brief preparation.

Inside, the room was in ruins.

Three of Marcus’s personal bodyguards lay dead on the Persian rug.

Dante was standing near the floor-to-ceiling panoramic window, his suit jacket torn, blood dripping from a small cut on his jawline. He held his pistol leveled directly at the head of Marcus Vance.

Marcus was down on one knee, his silver hair disheveled, holding his shoulder where a bullet had grazed him. He looked up at Dante with pure, unadulterated hatred.

“You think killing me changes anything, boy?!” Marcus spat, blood staining his white teeth. “The Vance family has roots deeper than your entire bloodline! My lieutenants will tear your empire apart by tomorrow!”

Evelyn stepped forward into the red light, her boots echoing softly against the wooden floorboards.

Marcus turned his head, his eyes widening as he saw her holding a gun. “Evelyn... child. Shoot him! Shoot him and take your place as the Queen of Europe!”

Evelyn walked slowly until she was standing right beside Dante. She looked down at the man who claimed to be her father.

“I spent my entire life thinking my real father was a good, quiet man who died penniless,” Evelyn said, her voice dropping into a razor-thin whisper. “He gave me love, even if he had nothing else. You have billions of dollars, Marcus, but you are empty.”

She stepped forward, pulling a heavy black encrypted flash drive from her vest pocket and tossing it onto the floor in front of him.

“That drive contains every illegal offshore account, human trafficking route, and corrupt political bribe your family has used for thirty years,” Evelyn said coldly. “I leaked it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Interpol registry ten minutes ago.”

Marcus’s face went deadly pale. “You... you destroyed our family heritage?!”

“I didn't destroy my family,” Evelyn corrected softly, leaning down to look into his terrified blue eyes. “I destroyed yours.”

Dante looked down at Marcus, his dark eyes cold and final. “It’s over, Vance.”

Dante raised his weapon and pulled the trigger.
