Chapter 8 - THE LIVE BROADCAST

The Grand Ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Denver was packed with camera crews, financial journalists, and high-net-worth investors.
Four massive HD screens lined the stage, displaying the blue and silver logo of Vance & Collins Financial.
On stage stood Richard Collins, looking regal at the podium, flanked by two corporate attorneys. To his right stood Daniel Vance, wearing a tailored navy suit, glowing with immense pride as light bulbs flashed across the room.
I sat in the very back row of the auditorium, wearing a long black velvet coat, a wide-brimmed black hat, and dark sunglasses. Beside me sat Arthur Vance, his hands rested calmly over his polished walking cane.
“Welcome, ladies and gentlemen,” Richard Collins’s deep voice boomed through the surrounding speakers. “Tonight marks a historic milestone for Vance & Collins. We are officially expanding our international operations through our new European subsidiary, managed directly by our brilliant new Senior Partner, Daniel Vance.”
Applause echoed through the room.
Daniel stepped up to his own microphone on stage, smiling brightly into the news cameras.
“Thank you, Richard,” Daniel said, his voice filled with practiced confidence. “This framework represents years of dedication, structural integrity, and absolute financial transparency. Under my sole direction as Managing Director, we are opening a new era of—”
Suddenly, the four massive screens behind Daniel flickered.
The blue corporate logo vanished.
In its place appeared a high-resolution document stream—the Zurich account ledgers, the offshore transfer logs, and the forged signature waivers bearing Daniel’s name, accompanied by a bright red federal stamp:
UNITED STATES SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION — FORMAL FRAUD INVESTIGATION NOTICE.
A collective gasp swept through the three hundred people sitting in the ballroom.
Reporters sat up straight. Camera operators zoomed their lenses in on the massive screens.
Daniel froze mid-sentence. His face went instantly pale. He turned around, staring at the screen behind him, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Richard Collins roared, stepping away from his podium, glaring angrily toward the technical booth in the back. “Turn those screens off right now!”
Before the technicians could react, the screens flickered again.
A new image appeared.
It was a crisp, clear screenshot of Daniel’s text messages with Emma Collins:
“I can’t wait. I’ve been living a lie in this house for six months... She’s quiet, she’s weak, and she has no idea what’s coming.”
A wave of loud whispers swept through the room. Camera flashes exploded like lightning strikes against the stage.
Emma Collins, sitting in the front row in a bright red gown, let out a sharp gasp, covering her face with both hands as four news cameras pivoted directly toward her.
“Who did this?!” Daniel screamed into his live microphone, his voice cracking with sheer, unadulterated panic. “TURN IT OFF!”
From the back row of the auditorium, Arthur Vance stood up slowly, using his cane.
Beside him, I stood up as well.
I unbuttoned my heavy black velvet coat, letting it fall open.
Underneath the dark fabric, my emerald dress clung to my twenty-week pregnancy bump—undeniable, clear, and visible to every single person in the room.
I walked slowly down the center aisle toward the stage, my heels clicking loudly against the polished hardwood floor in the sudden, quiet hush of the room.
Daniel’s eyes locked onto me.
He stared at my face. Then his eyes dropped down to my stomach.
His jaw dropped. His hands began to shake violently against the podium.
“Clara…?” he whispered into the live microphone, his voice echoing across the entire ballroom. “You… you’re…”
May you like
I stopped ten feet from the stage, looking up at my husband, at Emma Collins, and at Richard Collins.
“I’m nineteen weeks pregnant, Daniel,” I said, my voice clear, soft, and echoing through the auditorium speakers. “And as of eight o’clock tonight, the SEC, the FBI, and the Cook County Family Court have been served with the complete evidence of your fraud.”
