Chapter 3 - The Celebration at Pier 9

That same evening, while I rested in a private suite at the Crestview Estate, Gavin was hosting an extravagant pre-closing victory dinner at Pier 9—Minneapolis’s most exclusive waterfront steakhouse.
He had reserved the entire top floor overlooking the Mississippi River.
Over fifty senior executives, major supply-chain partners, and high-profile investors gathered under the crystal chandeliers, sipping vintage champagne and eating caviar. Charlotte Gable, wearing a silver sequined gown, walked arm-in-arm with Gavin, acting as the undisputed hostess of the evening.
Bridget and Mason sat at the head table, laughing loudly as they raised their glasses in endless toasts.
"To the future of SwiftFreight!" Gavin roared into a microphone, standing beside a massive ice sculpture carved in the shape of the Crestview logo. "In forty-eight hours, Crestview Partners will officially sign over 3.2 billion dollars! SwiftFreight will become the undisputed giant of Midwest logistics!"
Applause erupted across the room.
Charlotte leaned up and pressed a theatrical kiss against Gavin’s cheek, ensuring the hired press photographers captured every angle.
"And what about your ex-wife, Gavin?" one of the local business reporters called out from the front table. "There were rumors that Sabrina Miller owned a significant personal share of your early warehouse leases."
Gavin let out a loud, contemptuous laugh, waving his hand dismissively.
"Sabrina was a footnote," Gavin declared into the microphone, his voice echoing across the room. "A mediocre, unambitious woman who thought she could ride my tail-coats forever. She signed away her rights last night and left with three shirts and a sports bag. She’s probably sitting in some cheap motel right now, crying over her empty bank account."
Mason leaned over to Bridget, whispering loudly enough for the surrounding tables to hear: "She didn't just walk away empty-handed. She walked away holding forty million in liabilities. If she ever tries to sue us, the banks will seize her shoes!"
The table burst into cruel, arrogant laughter.
What none of them realized was that two tables away, sitting quietly in a dark suit behind a tall indoor fern, was Detective Miller from the Hennepin County Financial Crimes Unit, accompanied by two federal auditors from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Detective Miller was wearing a discreet earpiece, listening directly to the live transmission being relayed from my team at Crestview Tower. He made a quiet note in his official ledger: Subject Gavin Pierce and CFO Mason Gable confirming intentional asset stripping and malicious debt transfer.
"Enjoy your dinner, Mr. Pierce," Detective Miller murmured under his breath, taking a slow sip of his water. "It’s the last expensive meal you’re ever going to eat."
