Chapter 4 - The Fraudulent Balance Sheet

By Thursday morning, twenty-four hours before the official signing ceremony, the forensic team at Crestview had completely dissected SwiftFreight’s internal financial structure.

I sat in Arthur’s private study, surrounded by three monitors displaying complex flowcharts of international money transfers.

"Look at this node, Sabrina," Dr. Vance pointed her pen at a bright red cluster on the central monitor. "Three months ago, SwiftFreight defaulted on a four-hundred-million-dollar credit line with Deutsche Bank. To hide the default from our due-diligence team, Mason transferred forty million dollars from your joint marital property trust directly into a shell company called BlueHorizon Logistics registered in Nevis."

"And who owns BlueHorizon?" I asked.

"Officially, Charlotte Gable," Dr. Vance revealed, clicking a button to display Charlotte’s personal bank records. "Gavin transferred twenty percent of his company's undisclosed stock options to Charlotte six months ago as a kickback for her help in falsifying public relations press releases."

I leaned back in my leather armchair, processing the sheer depth of their stupidity. They hadn't just committed civil fraud against me; they had executed a massive, multi-tiered scheme of federal bank fraud, wire fraud, and grand larceny.

"Gavin’s entire 9-billion-dollar market valuation is a hollow shell," I observed. "Without Crestview’s 3.2 billion dollars to cover the Deutsche Bank debt on Friday, SwiftFreight will face an automatic margin call by Monday morning."

"Correct," Dr. Vance agreed. "If Crestview pulls out, SwiftFreight stock will plummet to zero within seventy-two hours. He will be completely bankrupt."

My phone chimed on the mahogany desk.

It was an automated security alert from my former home's smart-lock system. Gavin was attempting to wipe my personal cloud storage backups associated with our shared home network.

He was trying to erase any digital footprint of my existence before the Crestview board arrived tomorrow.

I tapped my screen, overriding his administrative access using my master override key—the key I had personally programmed when I managed his home network four years ago. Instead of deleting my files, my script executed a silent background sync, downloading every remaining document from Gavin’s personal computer hard drive directly to my tablet.

Including his encrypted emails with Charlotte Gable.

I opened the newest file. It was an email sent at 11:30 PM last night from Gavin to Charlotte, titled: After the Crestview Sign-off.

“Once Arthur Miller signs the 3.2 billion dollar transfer on Friday afternoon, we will immediately file for SwiftFreight’s restructuring. Sabrina’s name is tied to the debt nodes. By the time she realizes what happened, she will be facing federal indictment while we are in Dubai.”

I closed the tablet, my face completely devoid of emotion.

"Arthur," I said softly, looking over at my father who was sitting by the fireplace. "Call the District Attorney. Tell him we are ready to file the criminal charges tomorrow at 10:00 AM."
