Chapter 7 - The Grand Entrance

Friday morning. Seven-thirty AM.
A fleet of three glossy black Mercedes Maybachs pulled up to the grand marble entrance of Crestview Tower on Michigan Avenue.
The uniformed doormen hurried forward, opening the doors for Gavin Pierce, Mason Vance, and Charlotte Gable.
Gavin stepped out onto the sidewalk, slicking back his dark hair, adjusting his bespoke silk tie. He radiated an aura of supreme, unstoppable confidence. Charlotte strutted beside him in her high-end red dress, her heels clicking loudly against the polished stone, holding her head high as if she already owned the city.
Mason walked behind them, carrying a sleek leather briefcase containing SwiftFreight’s corporate seal and stock certificates.
They stepped through the grand glass doors into the soaring five-story atrium of Crestview Tower.
Four broad-shouldered security officers dressed in dark grey suits with silver Crestview lapel pins immediately stepped forward, intercepting them.
"Mr. Gavin Pierce?" the lead security officer asked, his voice flat and clinical.
"Yes, I am Gavin Pierce, CEO of SwiftFreight," Gavin announced proudly, puffing out his chest. "These are my senior executives, Mr. Mason Vance and Miss Charlotte Gable. We are here for the private Sovereign Signing ceremony with the Board of Directors."
The lead security officer checked a biometric tablet in his hand, then bowed his head with mechanical formality.
"The Board of Directors is waiting for you on the eightieth floor, Mr. Pierce," the guard said. "Please follow us to the private express elevator."
"Lead the way," Gavin chuckled, looking at Mason with a victorious wink.
They were escorted into a private high-speed elevator lined with dark mahogany and brushed gold trim. The elevator required a keycard swipe and biometric thumbprint scan from the security officer before the doors slid shut.
As the elevator accelerated rapidly toward the eightieth floor, Charlotte leaned against Gavin’s arm, whispering eagerly, "Gavin, do you think they’ll have press cameras inside? Should I adjust my hair?"
"Let the press wait until we sign the papers, babe," Gavin chuckled smoothly. "Once the ink is dry, we're holding a global conference."
CHIME.
The elevator came to a smooth stop at the eightieth floor. The silver doors slid open.
Gavin stepped out, expecting to see a festive reception hall filled with champagne, photographers, and smiling corporate directors holding welcoming banners.
Instead, he stepped into a long, quiet, glass-walled corridor lined with twenty-four silent men and women dressed in dark charcoal suits, standing motionless like stone statues.
At the far end of the corridor stood a set of grand double mahogany doors guarded by two armed federal marshals wearing tactical badges.
Gavin frowned slightly, his confident stride wavering for a brief second. "Strange setup... very formal."
"It's sovereign fund protocol, Gavin," Mason whispered nervously, swallowing hard. "These ultra-high-net-worth funds take security extremely seriously."
"Right," Gavin nodded, regaining his swagger. "Let's go claim our billions."
Gavin marched down the corridor, Charlotte and Mason trailing close behind him.

The two federal marshals at the end of the hall did not smile. They pushed open the grand double mahogany doors without saying a single word.
Gavin stepped across the threshold into the massive, high-ceilinged boardroom of Crestview Partners.
