Chapter 3 - The Titan Awakens

Arthur Vance did not achieve a forty-billion-dollar net worth by being a passive man. To the public, he was a legendary venture capitalist and philanthropist—a man of imposing stature with silver hair and penetrating blue eyes. To the corporate world, he was a apex predator who destroyed competitors with terrifying efficiency.

When he hung up the phone with Caroline, he was standing in the penthouse office of Vance Global Holdings, overlooking the city skyline. Sitting across from him were three people: Marcus Vance, his younger brother and former chief of naval intelligence; Victoria Sterling, the nation's most formidable corporate litigator; and Julian Vance, Caroline’s older brother and head of Vance Global’s private security operations.

"He took her," Arthur said simply, leaning back in his leather chair.

Julian stood up so fast his heavy chair screeched against the hardwood floor. "I’ll take a team right now and pull her out of that legal kidnapping house."

"Sit down, Julian," Arthur commanded mildly. "If we break in with force, Grant's lawyers will use the security footage to prove we are violent and unhinged. They'll use it to reinforce their narrative that Caroline comes from an unstable family. We aren't going to pull her out like thieves. We are going to destroy him so completely that he will never recover."

Victoria Sterling opened a leather portfolio on the desk. "Grant has played his hand clever, Arthur. He filed papers under seal in a quiet suburban court district where he bribed a magistrate. He’s claiming Caroline has severe paranoia and financial incompetence. He’s building a case for a conservatorship."

"How long has he been planning this?" Arthur asked.

Marcus stepped forward, dropping a sleek black hard drive onto the center of the table. "He’s been setting the groundwork for twenty-four months, Arthur. The moment he realized Hullbrook Enterprises was facing bankruptcy due to his embezzlement and failed real estate speculations, he began laying a paper trail against Caroline as an insurance policy."

Arthur’s eyes narrowed. "Two years?"

"Yes," Marcus replied grimly. "Grant paid off Dr. Reed two years ago. He bribed a mid-level IT administrator at Caroline’s bank to slip fraudulent wire logs into her account history. He was preparing to execute this plan the moment she became pregnant, giving him maximum leverage over you."

"He thought I was blind," Arthur murmured, a dark, cold smile playing on his lips. "He thought because I allowed him to marry my daughter, I wasn't watching him."

Arthur stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling glass window. "He thinks Caroline is broken, isolated, and penniless. He thinks she has no proof of what happened in that office two days ago."

"Does she?" Victoria asked.

"She doesn't need it," Arthur said, turning back to the room. "Because Grant forgets whose blood runs in my daughter's veins. And he forgets that I owned the building his firm leases."

Arthur turned to Marcus. "Activate the surveillance network we put on Hullbrook Enterprises last year. I want every text message, every bank transaction, every secret recording Grant and his mistress have made since 2024. I want every politician he bribed, every debt he owes to the syndicate, and every offshore account Brittany Mercer opened in the Cayman Islands."

"It'll take forty-eight hours to compile the final package," Marcus said with a sharp nod.

"Good," Arthur said. "Because in three days, Grant is holding his grand public press conference at the Metropolitan Hotel. He’s announcing his company’s new flagship development project—the one he secretly funded by stealing from Caroline’s private trust. He’s invited two hundred journalists, city leaders, and investors. He plans to publicly request privacy regarding his wife's 'mental collapse' to garner public sympathy and cement his narrative."

Arthur walked over to his desk, picked up a pen, and signed a document authorizing a five-hundred-million-dollar liquidity transfer into a private war chest.

"Let him prepare his stage," Arthur said, his voice dropping to a terrifying quietness. "Let him invite every camera in the country. Let him build his throne of lies as high as he wants. Because on Thursday afternoon, I am going to tear it down around his ears."
