Chapter 8 - Sweeping the Board

The aftermath of the press conference sent shockwaves through the financial and political landscapes. Within six hours, the footage of the incident had gone viral globally, garnering over one hundred million views across social media platforms. The public outrage was immediate and unanimous. "Grant Hullbrook" and "Caroline Vance" became the top trending topics worldwide.
By Friday morning, the Vance family’s legal team was operating with military precision.
Victoria Sterling spent the morning in a series of emergency court hearings. Armed with the video footage, bank records, and testimony from Vance Global’s forensic accountants, she secured an immediate annulment of all legal proceedings Grant had filed against Caroline. The judge who had initially issued the sealed conservatorship order was placed under internal investigation for corruption.
By noon, Dr. Evelyn Reed was stripped of her medical license and arrested at her clinic, charged with medical malpractice, falsifying official records, and accepting illegal kickbacks. The Pinecrest Executive Retreat was shut down pending a full state investigation.
In a private executive suite at Vance Global Headquarters, Caroline sat with her father, her brother Julian, and Victoria, reviewing the final financial destruction of Hullbrook Enterprises.
"Hullbrook Enterprises declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy at 9:00 AM," Victoria reported, sliding a document across the table. "Arthur's holding company acquired all of their distressed assets for pennies on the dollar. Grant's private estate, his vehicles, his stock options, and his personal bank accounts have all been seized to satisfy his creditors and pay restitution to Caroline's trust."
"What about Brittany Mercer?" Caroline asked calmly, sipping a cup of warm herbal tea.
"Her bail was set at five million dollars," Julian answered with a smirk. "Grant tried to use her offshore accounts to post his own bail, but father had those accounts frozen by international regulators in the Cayman Islands last night. Neither of them has a dime to post bail. They’re sharing adjacent holding cells at the county jail."
Caroline took a deep breath, feeling a tremendous weight lift off her shoulders. The fear, the isolation, and the self-doubt that Grant had cultivated in her over four years had completely vanished.
"There's one more thing," Arthur said, looking at his daughter with deep affection. "The board of Vance Global has unanimously voted to transfer the real estate assets acquired from Hullbrook Enterprises into a new charitable foundation."
"What kind of foundation?" Caroline asked.
"The Caroline Vance Foundation for Women’s Autonomy," Arthur revealed gently. "It will provide legal defense, financial resources, and safe housing for women trapped in financially abusive relationships and coercive marriages. You will serve as the Executive Chairwoman."

Tears filled Caroline’s eyes—not tears of pain, but of profound fulfillment. "Thank you, Daddy."
"You did this yourself, Caroline," Arthur said firmly. "You had the courage to walk out of that office with dignity. You had the courage to stand on that stage yesterday. I just provided the orchestra."
