Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

"This is an outrage!" Grant shouted, his demeanor cracking as panic began to bleed through his polished mask. "Arthur, your daughter is sick! She needs medical intervention! You are endangering your own grandchild by bringing her here!"

Arthur reached the base of the stage. He didn't look up at Grant with anger; he looked at him with the cold disdain one reserves for an insect.

"Victoria," Arthur said quietly.

Victoria Sterling stepped forward, holding a high-powered master override unit connected to the hotel’s multimedia system. Before Grant's security team could intervene, state troopers stepped onto the stage, blocking the private guards and presenting a federal warrant signed by a supreme court judge.

"By court order," Victoria announced loudly to the room, "we are commandeering the audiovisual feed of this conference to present evidence in an ongoing criminal investigation involving fraud, extortion, and corporate espionage."

"Turn off the projectors! Cut the power!" Grant screamed at the tech booth, sweating profusely now.

It was too late. Victoria plugged the drive into the main feed hub.

The massive, thirty-foot projection screens behind Grant flickered, wiped clean of the Hullbrook Enterprises logo, and lit up with crisp, four-K resolution video.

The audio roared through the surround-sound speakers of the ballroom.

The spit landed on Caroline Hullbrook’s cheek before her mind could understand what Brittany Mercer had done.

The entire room gasped in unified horror as the video showed the scene inside Grant's office from two days prior. The high-definition cameras captured every detail: Brittany Mercer sitting on the desk, smirking and spitting directly into the face of a seven-month-pregnant woman.

And then came the sound that silenced two hundred people completely: Grant’s deep, genuine laugh echoing through the speakers, followed by his chilling words: “Don't make this dramatic.”

"Oh my God," a reporter in the third row gasped aloud.

On stage, Grant collapsed backward against the wall, his eyes wide with horror as he stared at the thirty-foot screen displaying his own cruelty. Beside the stage, Brittany covered her face with her hands, but news cameras were already pivoting toward her, catching her panicked, pale expression in real time.

The video didn't stop there.

The screen transitioned seamlessly to a sequence of financial documents, bank wire transfers, and text message logs. It showed millions of dollars being systematically drained from Caroline's personal trust into offshore accounts registered in Brittany Mercer's name. It showed recorded text conversations between Grant and Dr. Evelyn Reed, negotiating a five-hundred-thousand-dollar bribe in exchange for falsifying psychiatric reports to have Caroline committed indefinitely.

"No... this is fake! It's AI! It's generated!" Grant stammered, stumbling back toward the podium, his tie loosened, sweat dripping from his chin. "You have to believe me! She’s framing me!"

Caroline stepped up onto the stage. She walked slowly, with absolute poise, taking her position behind the secondary microphone. She didn't look broken. She didn't look unstable. She looked like a queen reclaiming her domain.

"Four days ago," Caroline said, her clear, calm voice filling the room, "my husband stood by while his mistress humiliated me. He laughed because he believed I was broke. He laughed because he thought I was isolated. He laughed because he believed he could use my pregnancy to steal my father's fortune and declare me insane."

She turned her head and looked directly into the main television camera broadcasting live to millions across the nation.

"I am Caroline Vance Hullbrook," she said, her voice resonant with power. "I am perfectly sane. I am completely sovereign. And I am taking back my life."
