Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

When the doors closed, a long silence washed over the executive room.

Chairman Arthur Pendelton was the first to stand up. He began to clap slowly, his hands echoing in the room. Within seconds, every single member of the Board of Directors stood up, joining in a unanimous standing ovation for their new Chief Executive Officer.

“Bravo, Maya,” Pendelton said, walking over to shake her hand warmly. “That was a masterclass in leadership. This company has needed a moral reckoning for a very long time.”

“Thank you, Arthur,” Maya replied, offering a warm, genuine smile. “But removing two toxic individuals is only the first step. We have a massive amount of work ahead of us.”

She stepped back to her seat at the head of the table and re-engaged her tablet, her business persona instantly returning to full focus.

“Here is my mandatory action plan for Global Skyways, effective starting tomorrow morning,” Maya instructed the executive leadership team.

“First,” Maya outlined, “we are issuing a formal, public statement regarding the incident on Flight 842. We will not sweep it under the rug. We will own it, apologize publicly to our passengers, and use it as a transparent turning point.”

“Second,” she continued, looking at the Head of Human Resources. “We are overhauling our entire bias-training and conflict-resolution program for all flight crews, gate agents, and management staff. It will no longer be a passive online checklist. It will be an intensive, real-world curriculum mandatory for all eighty thousand employees worldwide.”

“Third,” Maya stated, looking at the Chief Legal Officer, “we are establishing an independent passenger advocacy ombudsman office. Any passenger who experiences harassment, discrimination, or improper treatment will have a direct line to an independent panel empowered to investigate and issue real consequences.”

The board members took notes rapidly, impressed by her clarity, vision, and decisive energy.

“Maya,” one of the senior board members asked. “What about the press conference tomorrow morning? The media is going to go wild when the video from Flight 842 goes fully viral.”

Maya smiled confidently, resting her hands on the table.

“Let them,” Maya replied. “Tomorrow morning, I will stand on that stage as the CEO of this company. I will address the video directly. And I will show the world that Global Skyways isn't just an airline that carries people across the sky—it’s an airline that treats every human being with the dignity they deserve.”
