Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

Harper turned to face the room, addressing the family elders and captains directly.

"Six months ago, my brother’s debt was manipulated," Harper declared. "It wasn't a random gambling loss. It was an artificial trap created to bring an auditor into the Moretti architecture. But it wasn't Roman who set that trap."

Silvio’s face turned pale. "Silence her!" he shouted, waving his hand at his guards. "She’s insane! Drag her out!"

"Touch her and you die where you stand," Roman said, his voice dropping into a lethal register that made every guard in the room freeze.

Harper pointed at Silvio. "The money wasn't stolen by Roman. It was funnelled into The Vanguard Legacy trust by Silvio Moretti using accounts registered in Panama under Nereid Shipping. And the car holding my brother outside this hotel right now? The drivers are on Silvio’s payroll."

"You have no proof!" Silvio yelled, his composure completely breaking.

"I have the raw system logs right here," Harper said, holding up the flash drive. "Not the modified files your tech team tried to push five minutes ago in the server room, Silvio. I knew you were monitoring the terminal. The files on this drive are the unencrypted, real-time banking transfers directly from Zurich, verified by international customs receipts."

At that moment, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open.

Four of Roman’s elite tactical guards walked into the room. Between them was Leo Evans—shaken, bruised, but alive and unharmed. Beside him walked Roman’s chief of security, holding a secure satellite phone.

"The perimeter is clear, boss," the chief announced loudly. "Silvio’s men outside have been disarmed and secured. Your brother is safe, Miss Evans."

Harper let out a long, shaky breath, her knees almost buckling with relief as she saw Leo standing safely near the doorway.

Silvio backed away, looking around the room for support from his fellow captains. But as the elders read the room and saw the raw data displaying on the ballroom’s main projection screens—which Roman’s team had just taken control of—every single captain turned their back on Silvio.

"You betrayed the family, Silvio," one of the oldest board members said, his voice heavy with disgust. "You tried to destroy the bloodline for personal greed."

Silvio reached for a gun hidden inside his coat, but before he could clear the holster, Roman stepped forward.

With blinding speed, Roman struck Silvio across the face, sending the older man crashing onto the marble floor—right where the champagne glass had shattered moments before.

"Take him away," Roman commanded quietly, not even looking down at his uncle. "The council will decide his fate tonight."

As the guards dragged a screaming Silvio out of the ballroom, the remaining guests stood in stunned silence. The power structure of the Moretti empire had been permanently rewritten in a matter of minutes.
